Here's a little job for germbox

He was looking to balance a DL103 and heavy AT headshell and also needed spacers to get the VTA right.

I made him a 142g Stainless steel counterweight and headshell to cartridge spacers in ebony at 3.5mm and 4.5mm thick.
In the Post to the USA.

Be interesting to hear how they get on.

Very tidy Steve.
Have you thought about making ebony headshells? I am stoked with mine.
Also are you able to make ebony counterweights? I might be interested in one if you can.

Hi Andrei,
Headshells are a bit fiddly + I'd need to source the stub part but I reckon I could make em...

Hmm, ebony counterweights. Compared to Stainless or brass, ebony has low mass per volume. You'd need a big lump to make say 130g.
I just weighed a piece. I reckon a standard mass counterweight would be quite possible though.
Could always set a core or ring of brass or stainless into the ebony for extra mass - that could look nice too. If lacquered the brass would not tarnish.

I mention the ebony headshell because they could be worth quite a bit. I have recently invested in the Yamamoto Sound African Darkwood headshell, and this is the first time that I had ever heard a difference with headshells, and that includes going from a Technics stock headshell to an expensive Oyaide. Retail the Yams are £50 odd so there is room to move.

You are probably right about the weight - or size, rather - needed for the counterweight. But as you say Brass and Ebony would be eyecatching.

I am presently putting together a DAC upgrade but would like to revisit this later.
