For sale : ATC SCM 20 ATSL active tower loudspeakers.

I really wanted these to work. The ESL 63s are very good, but are a bit oppressive in the room, and it would have so nice to have gone from this :

However, one of the penalties of living in the country is that the mains is not always very clean. Right now it's shewing 246,5 volts and there must be DC on it because the transformers on all my equipment buzz !
The ATC 20s, which were completely quiet when I listened to them at Alan's when I bought them, are more noticeable than other things in my room because I can't shut the rack door on them, and the enclosure acts as a sounding board. The cones are silent at rest, but the mains induced transformer noise is clear. I spoke to ATC and they also thought that the quality of the mains is the problem. They also told me that the tweeter will be upgradeable to the newest ATC-built version.

There are solutions to DC on the mains, but as I wanted these to be a fit and forget solution, very reluctantly, they're back up for sale to someone in the majority of the country that does not suffer from polluted rural mains issues. They are at the same price as Alan advertised them : £2 850. They have original documentation, 8 months of the original 6 year guarantee, 5 metres of Igloo Audio Silver Mogawi XLR-XLR cables and 4 metres of RCA-XLR cable, and 4 metre mains cables.

They are in immaculate condition, with just one hardly noticeable mark on the foot of one speaker, which I've tried to photograph.

At this price, these are a bargain. Igloo Audio has them listed new at £7 574. I suppose the finish is Cherry.

The boxes are here, but I don't want to trust these to courriers, so collection from Herefordshire HR6 or delivery / meet against agreed fuel costs.

If you really want them to work can't you put a DC blocker in the mains feed to them?

I could indeed, but I wanted these to be fit-and-forget; I really don't want to start going down new roads. The cheapest DC blockers I've seen are around £500, with the Isotek in-line version costing over £900. If you can wield a solding iron, there are DIY builds available, but that's beyond me, I'm afraid.

Well, I've just brought these downstairs to the front room and the family system, and they sound superb. Maybe it's the concrete floor and solid brick walls ? Even the mains buzz is less apparent.
They're being driven straight from the rca output from the Oppo 103, with none of the hiss that others have said they get when using the Oppo as a preamp.
I'm rather tempted to upgrade the Oppo to the 105 which has xlr outs and is supposed to be more at home as a preamp, but make me an offer anyway !

Or I might just keep the 20s (if no-one wants them ) and sell:

the Rega Brio-R £320 + p&p
and the (older-style) ATC SCM11s (£600).

Both boxed and in excellent condition.
