I'm just trying out EAC and seem to be unable to rip files as FLAC, they keep saving as Wave.

Any ideas fellas?

You need to select flac as the output format in settings. then when you have done the info etc click on save compress box on left and off it goes.

If you don't have flac frontend installed on your pc you will need to download it

Just tried set up again and still giving a 'wave sound' file.

download and install it... and put it somewhere where you know its location on the pc. in eac click eac, then compression options, external encoder. you need to tell eac where the flac encoder is I think. it might find it itself I cant remember.

Foobar doesn't do secure rips.

As Grant has said, download and install FLAC Frontend, and then point EAC at FLAC Frontend for post rip processing.

It looks worse than it is tbh and once done its done...foobar is more complicated tbh. eac rips are the best

I'm just playing with it right now - I use dbPoweramp, and haven't set up EAC in a long while.
The results with both of the ripping tools mentioned are identical, but dbPoweramp has a far nicer user interface. Seems to rip a touch quicker too, but that's not the point of the exercise.

I'll get back as soon as I've got EAC running properly :)

see the box that says program including path....

you need to click browse and show eac where you stored the FLAC.EXE that you downloaded. The click ok and job done

EAC is not very user friendly, albeit very good and free.

dbPoweramp is just as good and much easier to use, but you have to pay for it. Think there is still a free trial version though?

as long as you installed flac after downloading it. use the browse button and go to c..program files. look down list til you find flac and click it. that will tell eac where it is.


in eac , when in compression options you have to select user defined encoder before you get the option to go find the flac folder(see above pic)

Uninstall EAC.
Install FLAC Frontend.
Reinstall EAC, and follow the wizard. Look out for comments about speed or quality, as this is where you're setting up EAC for outputting FLACs.

When you get to the bit where it asks for an email address give it - I have not received any spam because of it, and if you don't put a email address in EAC will not look up any metadata online.
The Artist/Album/Track data does not come from the record companies - it's ordinary Joes like you and I that enter this data for others to access - occasionally you'll encounter a CD which doesn't have online metadata associated with it.
When it happens it's a pain, cos you end up having to type all the info in yourself - this gets fed back into the database eventually, so think of it as giving back a little of what you take.

When you have EAC installed, go to the dropdown menu at the top of the screen, and click "EAC" and the "EAC Options".
Go to the "Filename" tab, and enter this character string into the higher of the 2 boxes %artist%\%albumtitle%\%tracknr2% - %title%
This tells EAC what to do WRT file structure and track naming.

You might need a bit of guidance getting the metadata bit to work, but for now just get the ripper and post rip processing to function properly.

It might be worth persevering with EAC, there are a ton of guides out there https://www.google.co.uk/#q=eac+setup+guide? But if you are happy to pay for dBpoweramp then it is without doubt much easier to use.

Did you install FLAC or just 'download' it? In truth all you need is FLAC.exe I thought recent versions of EAC came with it. Anyway, on my machine the file is located in the following folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Exact Audio Copy\FLAC

see if you can navigate to that folder on your PC.

I thought it pretty simple, although not with win 8.1 ..dont go there:lol: the trick is installing flac frontend and guiding eac to it
