Out of interest, is there a way to fill in dents etc before being anodized?

As I understand anodising, only if the dents are filled with exactly the same alloy composition as the rest of the piece.

Anything so much as a minuscule mark on that aluminium prior to the process, it will show.
Elbow grease, cutting compound then Autosol it Andy!
Get it smooth then anodised..will be flawless.
Or just buy a new one?

Hi Gary, l want to buy the Orbe clamp, but would like it in silver, thus in keeping with my Silver Gyrodec.:)

Does that mean that they cannot be adonized Andr'e?
Delrin is a plastic, so no you can't anodise it.
The current Michelll clamps do however have a small aluminium handle on top which is anodised silver, black or gold. Is it just this top element that you want anodised?

Well you will need an aluminium or similar metal clamp. Anodising does not work on plastic.
If you've already got the clamp, and it's a suitable metal, then there are lots of metal refinishers that could do the job for you - try to find one that works on cars and bikes - they are used to small parts, and will do one off items for you.

I was thinking of making an aly front panel for my LDR pre to match the CDP (red!) and came aross this site. You just need caustic soda, nitric acid and sulphuric acid! Actually, I think I have all those, and Dylon red dye would colour it. What could possibly go wrong? :eek:

Looks good against the black platter Andy, might still look the business?
Can knock up a quick photoshit job to illustrate if it'll help?

The clamp l have is the one in the image Gary, however l do have the style silver one but this rings like a bell......

That's the one i have it's Tufnol with Anodised Aluminium screw knob.. Im having trouble with your comment where you say a clamp rings! :D

If you do the 'knuckle test',:) my black Delrin clamp is quiet and the silver has a ring to it......
Doesn't look too bad with the Orbe clamp Andy?
Its dead quiet too, no ringing.

Is the Orbe clamp worth the wonga performance wise Gary?:cool:

To be honest Andy I've only ever used the Orbe clamp on my deck that has the Orbe platter and all the other gubbins.
By all accounts though it's a good upgrade, I've read elsewhere that happy punters reckon it gives 70% of full Orbe platter upgrade.
What that means in real terms who knows, but general consensus says yes, go for it.
Certainly clamps records a lot better, which has got to be a good thing.
If your changing over to the threaded bearing I can recommend you change from the Michell bearing oil to the Audio Origami bearing oil. Their own creation and improved the sound of my deck, better timing and detail.
It's only a fiver.
Have you still got the original single spider on your Gyro?
Adding the second spider from the Orbe is a good upgrade I HAVE heard and would recommend to anyone looking to boost their Gyro.

No Gary, have not thought about another spider, my dealer came around to look at the Gyro and assorted bits, he reset up the Gyro( this included an oil change) and l swear it sounded a tad better, have heard good things regarding the AO Bearing oil, so will look into this.:)
