Hello to all ...

I'm Steve, and I'm an ex-photographer who now makes classical & flamenco guitars.

I'm not really a HiFi buff but have always liked my music, without being overly concerned about the means of delivery, as long as it is well delivered and sounds good to my ears!! ... most genres except fluffy pop and anything 'metal'.

I'm afraid I know very little about most of the system hardware discussed here on the forum, but I am just beginning to get into it a little more since just acquiring my dad's old Garrard 401 with a Decca FFSS Professional tonearm ... alas, the FFSS cartridge is missing and not easy to come by, so I haven't had the chance to hear it yet :(
This is a real step up from anything I've had before, so can't wait to get her going!

I, like many these days, have started to get back into listening to vinyl. Over last Christmas, I dusted off my Technics SL-Q202 deck and fired her up after an enforced hibernation of 20yrs or so, and have been really enjoying listening to my 1970's albums again!!

I'm now pondering about getting a decent amp to partner the Garrard 401, but don't really know what yet ... another reason to be here! ... I'm thinking classic and British but without breaking the bank:eek: .. and the names that spring to mind are Leak and Quad; we'll see!

Don't feel overwhelmed by Hi-Fi. The basics are not hard to get your head around and I'm sure our members will be happy to point you in the right direction.

If you have questions. We have areas covering every aspect of Hi-Fi. Have a look around and if you need to, ask questions in the appropriate section or if you're not certain, in the Blank Canvas area.

Your Garrard 401 and Decca arm sound interesting. Post a photos in the Analogue Art area and ask for advice. The old Decca FFSS cartridge heads are still used by enthusiasts and can sound extremely good. Second hand examples can be found and they can still be serviced. This worth doing, but not cheap.

If you are buying an amplifier, you need to consider what likely speakers you may use with it.

And we like to know what sort of music members listen to.
