A few years ago I came into possession of a Techie. Call it a DJ rescue unit, complete with a tacky slip-mat. Knowing the Stanton cart that was on it was more suited to heavy duty DJ use, I dug into the "old parts box" and found a Radio Shack RXT-6 from long ago and pressed it into duty. The slip-mat was also ditched and I experimented with cork, cork/foam, cork/rubber and even acrylic as replacements.
Then I began to read "rumors" about mods that could be done to the SL-1200. I found some posts about mounting the transformer outside of the turntable itself :bulb: and from there heard tell of some guys "across the pond" who were really serious about their 1200/1210's.
Thanks to info and ideas passed on here I've done a few things to my deck. I've applied Dynamat to the underside of the stock platter, switched all the LED's to blue, replaced the stock tonearm tube with a carbon fiber/aluminum one and upgraded the arm's wiring, upgraded the RCA leads, replaced the stock feet with Racquet balls, done the external PS mod, spruced it up with new paint and added a Resomat. I got a Shure M97xE a couple of years ago but it left me wanting so I got an AT120e and like it a lot better. The results of the work done? To me, it sounds fantastic! I can only imagine what the decks of some of the other members here with aftermarket platters, tonearms and spindle bearings sound like.
I've secured the bits to do a DIY voltage regulator and hope to get to that soon and later this year I hope to upgrade the spindle bearing. Oh yeah, I think the KAB tonearm damper might make a nice addition to the modded arm. In the meantime, any suggestions, comments or tips on where to go from here are welcome :thumbsup:
