I agree with a lot of what you've said Marco but not that bit. The system may assess drug addicts who are not contributing or functioning as normal due to their habit and give them something to live on but 'if you're black' ? :scratch: the 'situation' really isnt that simplistic or as black and white as that.

I can only reflect the situation as my friend it involves is directly experiencing it, and that's what he tells me. He's not a liar, and has witnessed said 'preferential treatment' first hand, as outlined above :)

Real independence would involve paying your own way, whereas electing the SNP into Scotland allows you to whine about wanting more subsidies without the responsibility of paying for them, AND, independence would almost certainly have involved a loss of EU membership, and the use of Sterling as the national currency. So the issues are entirely separate. The Scots are less stupid than you seem to believe

Or the voting at the referendum was rigged (as the elite in England didn't want Scottish independence, and in turn risk losing all the money generated from north sea oil, etc), and so the REAL views of the Scottish people, in terms of number of votes, only became evident at this election. That's what I believe. You can believe differently. It won't change my mind one iota :)

I know I won't change your mind. You have no understanding how either politics, government or hi-fi works, and are happy with that and proud of it. But it means that for you everything is a major black box where any fantasy is as possible as any reality.
The SNP were part of the vote process. They were part of the scrutiny process. They are entirely clear that the vote was fair and not rigged. They were there, on the ground, and understand the mechanics of the count process. But apparently the SNP got it wrong and Marco knows best. As ever, I'm sure you're right.
And I'm happy being wrong.

when the people he claims to champion, the poor, starving downtrodden masses on council estates would look at his Champagne swilling, Mercedes driving, done so well for himself he barely works these days, spends a shitload on hifi and good food, lifestyle

You make some valid points. However, the difference between the sort of 'fat cats' I'm referring to, and me, is essentially twofold:

1) I didn't get to where I am now by having things handed to me on a plate, or by cashing in on tax perks at the expense of the poor, or by receiving dubious 'back handers', or by any other immoral means, but simply by hard graft and judicious financial investments.

2) Unlike those I'm referring to, I'm not greedy or corrupt, nor do I measure success by wealth or material possessions - and most importantly of all - I genuinely care for others less fortunate than I am, and in the course of practising my Catholic faith, help look after and provide for such people, not only financially but by giving my own personal time to make their lives that bit happier and more bearable.

Furthermore, I would willingly vote for any political policies that put the best interests of others who need help, before mine, no matter if they adversely impacted on my income, because I've got more than enough. How many of the true 'fat cats' in this country could you say would do the same, or qualify under 1) and 2) above?

For the type of folk I'm referring to, see the old chinless duffers in the House of Lords, who sit on their fat, inbred backsides and do next to nothing, but get rewarded handsomely for it at the tax payer's expense; money that could be going instead to those who *really* need it.

That, and numerous other instances of pure unadulterated greed/corruption and outdated 'perks for the boys', which infect today's vulgar materialistic, money-driven society (let's not even mention the numerous wastes of space 'Lord and Lady, such and such' chinless spongers and hangers on in the royal family, being paid ridiculous amounts of taxpayer's money, for doing the sum total of f*ck all), is what boils my piss.

*That* sort of immoral greed and unjustified rewarding of the rich is what I would dearly love to eradicate, with all the money that they've wrongly been given, taken off of them and given instead to those in our country who desperately need it.

Therefore, perhaps you could bear all of that in mind before rather unfairly comparing me with those types of 'fat cats'? :)

Yup, Bev, that's what happens when folk can't handle the truth, their blinkered and ingrained belief system challenged, or have the mirror shone on the least savoury parts of their characters and their anti-Scottish bias exposed ;)

There's also ample evidence of the 'green-eyed monster' rearing its ugly head in all manner of distasteful ways....

However, you're right. All that has needed to be said, has been said, and we're simply in the zone now of deeply-entrenched views never being overturned, and the whole thing becoming personal, so I think we'll leave it there.
