Will it really be full frame (36mm x 24mm)?

I have been thinking of getting an M8, so I could continue to use my lenses, but Leica bollocks'd it up on first release, only putting it 'right' with the 8.2 (for an additional fee). Also the reduced sensor size of the 8.1/8.2 means that the effective focal lengths are 1.5x that marked on the lens, so to obtain the same angle of view of say a 35mm lens, you would need the much more expensive 24mm design. Even more expense! (Though I suppose one could use Voigtlander design - if the Leica body doesn't spit it out!)

Not sure if I can be fussed to log-on at 14:00 on 09.09.09 to read all about it. I'll wait until it gets reviewed and then it will have to be bloody perfect to justify what I expect will be a large selling price.

These days it's difficult to know who Leica are catering for. Are they now just designing 'camera jewellery', for the likes of the Farrari and yacht owning elite, or are they designing a tough reliable workhorse for professional photographers?

full frame? so the rumours speculate...

the m8/8.2 is 1.3x i think - from what i have read it was the limit they could achive before fall off became unexeptable
the voigtlander lenses are very good (i own many more of them than i do leica lenses - and even just sold my leica 40mm instead of the voigtlander equiv, as i belive the voigtlander to be better)
the problem is of course, like older leica lenses, they dont have the pins to comunicate lens details to the camera, which is leicas current way of dealing with fall off!
the m8 was a farce in my book... all that crap with magenta shift they suffered and the filters you had to buy to combat it... load of toss
i was more interested in the 8.2, but have never been ovrly tempted because of the incredible price tag.... a full frame one though... with good low light capability... and less fall off with my voigtlander lenses... ... ... prob still wouldnt buy one! like you say, its jewlery for the rich! i prob wouldnt buy a bugatti veyron either ... doesnt stop me drooling though eh!

as i side note the epson r-d1/r-d1s is a wonderful and much cheaper alternative! its based on the voigtlander r2a! they have also just released the r-d1x in japan so you can even buy them new again... although i wouldnt as its almost as much as a m8

theres one on ebay right now.. i got mine for £800 off ebay

I reckon that the value of the camera and lenses in that catalog must be greater than the annual GDP of the country those pics were taken in.

The twin tube flashgun interests me, but I reckon it will cost a fortune.

Yeah those picture in the brosure are very over proccessed ... It doesn't really say anything about the camera in my books! They could have been taken with anything!

You should get one though dave, you get lightroom free with it

It's so frustrating it's that expensive! I know it's a leica and blah blah highest build quality blah blah, but what about the normal human beings with normal reasourses available to them ... Like me! It's just to far out of my reach to justify!
I understand there are rumours of a ziess ikon equivalent ... Fingers crossed eh?!
In the meanwhile I have just been enquiering into getting my r-d1 serviced as it needs a new sensor... Expensive! But well worth it!!
It's not basterd full frame though ... God damn it i want an m9!!

Let's hope Panasonic comes out with a Lumix G-x that uses the same sensor. If they can knock that out at below £1K they'll make a killing.

that would be fantastic, but unfortunatly i feel it is unlikely its a kodak sensor and i think pannys are in house? dont quote me on that though
the g series cameras all use the 4/3rds system too, it would mean a completely new system, not likely so soon after putting so much time and money into the development of the g series
panasonic would also be unlikely to worry to much about optical vf .. and highly unlikely to implement a rangefinder. unfortunatly the rangfinder, it would seem, is not as comercially viable as compacts and slrs!
daft really people dont know what they are missing.
also the camera world is so obsesed with wide angle lenses at the mo if they tried to tell people to focus with one hole and frame with an add on vf (like i have to with my ultra wides with rfs) i doubt it would go down to well

My compact is a Casio EX-Z850. It's the only decent compact that I could find that had auto and manual controls and a decent traditional viewfinder. But it is also crammed full with a host of other features that even a serious amateur would be happy with to have in a back up camera. A pity Casio didn't keep all those features in their later models. It is unfortunately no longer on sale, and that's a shame. It was well thought out, except for the lens jamming problem that became a trade mark design fault. The problem was first noticed on the earlier EX-Z750, which I also own. It succumbed to the lens jamming fault, and I had expected Casio to have sorted it out in the EX-Z850.

i, like many, have had to sacrifice the vf for other features i wanted in a compact! the panasonic lx3 would almost be the perfect compact (for me at least) if it had a vf.
i just make use of an old yashica external vf (and a portion of luck) in those situations where it is required
