Hi

I am dipping my toe very gingerly back into vinyl after a 30 year hiatus ---- I (will ) have a Croft series 7 power amp with a pre module and a very lightly used Project RPM 1.3 Genie with Ortofon Red cartridge so I'm after a basic but capable phono stage that I will use initially with a switching box as amp has but a single input ----- as my commitment to the vinyl cause is as yet undetermined I don't want to spending too much ( which is good because I'm broke anyway !) so thoughts are welcome ---- I was quite intrigued by this and like the idea of low noise battery power but is it just too basic ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BATTERY-POWERED-PHONO-PRE-AMPLIFIER-RIAA-PHONO-STAGE-LOW-HUM-DESIGN-/301098725843?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item461ae1f1d3 ..... obv choices are a project box etc I guess ---- anyone with something they are looking to shift or advice on a hidden gem ? I am happy to look at second hand and also I like little cottage industry type suppliers even if not widely known ---- not terribly keen on getting sometg direct from China simply because of cost and delays is there is a fault but i am happy to consider Chinese gear from a UK distributor or a reliable used unit.... I love my Consonance CD and I've had a great amp from them and also Ming Da so it's not a nationalist stance ! ... this also seemed q good too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Edwards-Audio-Apprentice-MM-Phono-Stage-/391092435865?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5b0eecfb99 but I am very much a novice re vinyl so my faith and fate is in your hands !
cheers
chris

Rega Fono mini, about as good as it gets new for around 70quid.

Are you still using the brio r amp? Have you tried the phono stage in inpout 1. It's quite capable you know.

Hagerman Bugle II

Unbeatable for the money by anything out there at that budget.

Even cheaper in kit form if you're confident with your soldering skills and have a multi-meter.

+ 1 for this. I use one and am comparing to other more expensive phono amps at present and the MF stands up very well. Cost about £150 new. Get it !
