This evening I went to collect a pair of weird speakers that appeared on local ads (a vintage active Cabasse). While I entered the room, I spotted a mint SP 10 Mk2 in the corner, wrapped in foil, with a perfect looking PSU. I asked is it for sale and got the answer I didn' want to hear. Yes, 750e or 550 Pounds for a pure minter.

What were the active Cabasses? I've only heard of their mid-90s active speakers which looked like a pyramid or something but were multi-10s of thousands of pounds.

Cabasse are producing active cabinets for studio use since early 70s. Mine are a mid-70s model Dinghy 222 (2 VT 12) powered by 2 x 20w solid state amps per channel and with a simple electronic crossover (one of two drivers plays full range).

They sound marvelous. I used to have active ATC 20A so I have a reference, these are much much better in everything except in dynamic headroom (nothing compare with ATCs there). I'm generally biased towards vintage Cabasse sound, I find the house sound more seducing than Snell or Audio Note (closest point of reference in terms of musicality and valve friendliness), but these buggers surpassed my hopes. I was actually looking for a full range 8" driver with a red basket that went to later Dinghy 221 which is not in this model so I went to see them just out of curiosity. But it didn't take me long to decide, although I have no use of them at the moment. From what I've heard so far, I could easily scale down from my expensive horn plus DHTs system. Here's some pics - they really don't look convincing....

Ive done some extensive research on this very subject, and read many academic papers, by very clever people.

It has been proven beyond doubt.

Quite seriously, if you decide not to buy it, please forward me the sellers information, I will buy it.

And anyway, it's one of those tables that will prompt the sale of all your others, as it performs so much better. So from a equipment reduction standpoint, it has extremely high WAF.

550 sterling for a mint sp10mk2 and power supply - is a bargain! Go for it. But bear in mind, the plinth may cost the same again.
I have seen the matching SH10B3 obsidian plinth on ebay recently - two of them by the same seller. Not sure if they are still there. Makes for a grand set up - the slate option may be even better. Sod the WAF element, go for BAF factor - BargainAbsolutelyFullstop.

I have (at the moment) 12 turntables only 1 of which is a techy (SL120 with Jelco 750 arm), 6 are GL75s 1 is a 401. Main TT is the Art Audio composer. I also have 8 CD/SACD/Blu-Ray Spinners plus 5 Revox R2Rs, six cassette deck and seven tuners including a Troughline, a Stereofetic and an FM2. Do I get a street cred score or as soe have said am I beyond hope?

But, don't listen to me. I have "ZERO" cred. :( All of my TT's are Technics: 3x SL-1200MK2, 2x SL-1200M3D, 1x SL-M3, 1x SL-1400MK2, 1x SL-1500MK2, 1x SL-150MK2 (replinthed). Somewhat regrettably, I let 2x SL-QL1's go, and, happily trashed an SL-J2.

To be honest, I just haven't started collecting Techie SP's, Thorens, Lenco, Garrard, Trans-Fi and TW Acustic................. yet. :D
