I'm reaching out for help as I feel like I'm going crazy over this! :mental:
I'm going to try and keep this short as possible but my head is all over the place at the minute that it might just come out as a jumbled mess! :p
I've been using a solid Marantz PM7001 for about 5 years now (purchased 2nd hand from AVF) with B&W 601s3 speakers. I've recently upgraded to XTZ 99.26mkii speakers and would now like to upgrade my amp and/or add a power amp for bi-amping. My current system use the same front speakers in a 2.0 set-up and also for 5.1 duties (hence why I went for the 7001 with it's HT Bypass).
My aim is to keep that simple system in place but after doing tons of research over the last week or so I'm struggling with an answer. It seems not so many amps offer this feature. My current AVR is a Sony DA2400ES, which I'll be keeping for now but will update it down the line. My main priority at the moment is getting a solid upgraded stereo set-up sorted but then be able to just drop in a new AVR or pre/pro with pre-outs at a later date.
I really wanted to purchase an XTZ AP100 to connect to my Marantz pre-outs for use as a power amp to power the LF (the Marantz powering the HF). The problem there is that there would then be 2 pre-amps in the 5.1 chain (the Sony and the Marantz) before it hits the AP100. Now whether that will cause any sound quality issues I don't know but what I'm unsure of is can my PM7001 operate as a pre and power at the same time from the pre-out and amp-in sockets? Currently when I want to use the power section only I flick the HT switch to connect straight to the power amp. Now with a power amp connected to the 7001 pre-outs, I'll need the pre-outs to feed the stereo power amp and the amp in for the incoming signal from the Sony.
Does that make any sense?
Budget is under £1000 but ideally was looking around the £4-500 mark and figured with the XTZ being a ''giant killer'' and would match my speakers it would be a no brainer and a bargain.
I've even looked at the XTZ 100D3 but that has no HT bypass and I don't like how you have to have jumpers at all times between the pre and power outputs and I don't like the fact of having to add a splitter or switch box in the line. I want as clean connections as possible. I don't want to be upgrading kit but then potentially losing some quality/adding noise in the process.
I've even looked at a Roksan Kandy but is that a real worthwhile upgrade? Also, will that allow me to use both amp-in and pre-out at the same time?
Or am I missing something crucial?
I'd appreciate any and all help here.
