Hi Folks,
So after aquiring these not-so-little JBL speakers from Jak Hawk (aka Mike) (big thanks to mike btw), i'd like to know if anyone knows anymore about them?
I have to say they are very surprising in comparison to my little (by comparison) Tannoy Profile 632's but sound great when loud! :)
Foams surrounds all in good order (have all been done previously according to Mike)
From the research i've done, these are different from the normally-billed LX500's in that they arn't the ones with the triangular-shrouded top tweeter which normally look like these:-

Instead they look like this:-

The major differences i can tell are that these specifically seem to be:-
Made in Denmark (not USA as the more common LX500's)
4 Ohm's (not 8 as the other more common LX500's seem to be)
Have more traditional (and preferable) speaker binding posts rather than the sprung-clip type on the more common LX500's
Serial numbers seem to be stamped into the label rather than in black font (can't see from the photos)
Interesting to note both the speaker binding posts and the shroud to the top tweeter are both embossed JBL so must be original...
So, moving onto restoration options - the piano-black veneer is starting to peel/come away in certain areas.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to completely remove the veneer so i could then look at options around re-veneering with something different - they might look nice with a more natural wooden veneer that i could treat... I wonder if re-heating with hot-air gun or even iron might soften the veneer adhesive enough to get a scraper under to seperate?
I'm handy with DIY so not aversed to having a go myself!
Crossover - obviously these arn't bi-wireable but does anyone know if the crossovers would benefit from a re-cap? I've not taken out the drivers to look at this option yet but will do when time allows.
