Hello, I have been following threads on this site for a few weeks and figured I should join. I have recently got back into vinyl after a long layoff. my wife accidentally bent back the cantilever and stylus on my Ortofon SuperOM40, I could not afford to replace it, so my 1210M5G went into storage. After much research for an affordable cartridge (that was legit) this last xmas my wife bought me a DL103R, It took me awhile to get it all going, but man was it glorious. I have never heard music like that in my 40 some years of life. I'm not sure how much of it is the cartridge and TT and how much of it is the delivery system (vinyl) but I am now a firm believer of both the 1210M5G/DL103R and Vinyl. MP3's, FLAC, and CD's can suck it. I also got a KAB EV-1 record cleaning system, which makes a huge difference. Can someone recommend where I should post a counterweight/headshell DL103R question? I decided to change out the gold Technics headshell I was using for a heavier Sumiko one, and now I have counter balance issues. I need help:scratch:

Hello Freddy. Welcome to AOS.

So, a return to vinyl. Good for you. The Techie and DL-103R go well together.

You'll find we have sections covering every aspect of Hi-Fi and questions about headshells should go in the Analogue Art area. Analogue Art also has a sub-forum called The Techiepedia dedicated to Technics turntables which I'm sure you'd find informative.

welcome from me too, Freddy. Technapedia as geoff says deals with techy issues. We have a member here speedy steve who makes bespoke counterweights to order and he may be your man.

Hi Freddy, welcome to the Forum.

if you are using a Sumiko headshell you will need the additional balance weight that screws into the back of the arm. If you bought your Technics new it should have been supplied, otherwise you can buy one on-line for not much money.

Thanks for the reply Martin, I actually do have the additional balance weight and it's still not enough. The weight of my headshell, spacer, cart, and hardware comes out to a whopping 26.5g. maybe i should take the spacer out. I was under the impression I needed it though for a correct VTA setting.
