For crying out loud, the wife came in today brandishing new Dinner plates, flaming virtually flat square ones. Absolute nightmare, I did not enjoy eating my dinner on one, they wont stand up in the drainer, i promise her the corners will end up getting chipped off & i also promised her she will find them in the bin by mid week :D
What the hell is this all about?

Thats the laugh shes on a diet & told me she wants smaller portions. I told her they hold more snap than the ones we got
An attempt at the Deco look. I know a few folk that have them and as you say they are not practical. Plates are round for a reason:lol:

Simply awful mate. Square plates are wrong and they'll take up more room in the cupboard I'll wager too.
Could be worse though, nowt gets my back up more than when you go out to eat and they serve you your dinner on a wooden chopping board, or a bit of slate. How many other folks have eaten off it before you and how on earth to do they keep them washed and hygienic???
Also the noise of the cutlery on the slate sets me on edge like fingernails down a chalkboard.

I saw that with boards on a Lidl ad. Looked very unhygienic.

I don't know who the bright spark was that came up with the idea to serve food on a chopping board. I was served a steak on one once and that was the last time that I accepted that kind of service.
I have had food served in wooden bowls and even leaves when I lived in the Amazon jungle.

Lol... Who remembers 'Chicken in a basket', from the 70s? Every pub then offered it - and it was a REAL basket, too.... No idea how they cleaned those! :eek:
As for square plates, I wouldn't use them for 'everyday eating' (and agree with the points being made), but we have a few that we use for dinner parties, when we're entertaining, as you can do some nice presentation effects on them :)
Hate slate or wooden blocks with a passion. It's nonsense, totally impractical, and just plain wrong :nono:

Yes, I was served a meal on one not long ago. Some West Country yacht club restaurant with 'posh' ideas if I recall. I didn't like it, nor did I like the way the cutlery scraped across the unglazed surface. Blackboards and chalk spring to mind. It's just fadist fashion, not common sense.
Will they spin in the microwave or get stuck?

Worst meal I had was off an oblong slate 'plate' - chef got too clever and served vanilla cream with beautiful roasted Halibut. It was splodge of this and smear of that so slate plates are definitely :nono:

One of my colleagues took a picture of it...which is another odd thing: taking pictures of food in restaurants. I've been in a few posh nosheries recently and everyone seems to be at it. What's that all about?

They sell sliced 'sausage loaf' in Iceland stores. Square slices that fry up in next to no time. Lovely!!

Yeh seen them Geoff, not there but elsewhere, they looked a bit pink for my liking. Id rather make them up misen tho..

Nah, it's not my department, dude. I handle the wine, lol! Del loves cooking, and is extremely good at it, but sometimes likes to get out the house and enjoy herself, too. We love eating out - it's one of the things we enjoy doing most :cool:

Had a couple of Lorne sausages bought from an award winning butchers this morning . Unfortunately on round rolls and on round plates . Very nice they were too :)
Quite nice as a cheeseburger is the Glasgae sausage
