The belt is not difficult to replace. But it is very likely that you are going to get fleeced by quite a few repair places the moment you show up with your CDP to get it fixed. I have heard stories of people getting billed for a complete laser CD mechanism.
I did mine myself. it was a little awkward as I had to partially remove the drawer, but its really a 10/15 min job.

I suppose with the belt cost and fitting charge I could get a good budget CD player off eBay it's a dam shame as sounds wonderful to me

What's wrong with trying to fit it yourself ?
A couple of screwdrivers and a bit of patience and your there cant make it any worse and the belt wont be expensive

Buy one of auction you'll end with more than changing the belt ;)
Looking online seems to be a problem with most nad CD players wonder if I'd be better buying a technics PLG490 or pioneer stable platter off eBay seems they are built to last but will they sound as good or better than my old nad 520 with my nad 3020e amp and mission M30s speakers ?????

The tray belt will go one day one even the best built CDP if it uses rubber. You can't defy the laws of physics as far as the durability of the rubber material is concerned. I fitted a belt on a £5K CDP for someone last year as a favour. There are some trays that use a toothed gear instead, but when the tray gets stuck for some reason the gear assembly can quickly get damaged by the torque from the tray loading motor.

I agree with Andr'e, the Sony 930E is a great player, I still use mine in a second system.
I will look in the den tomorrow, I may have a Phillips player that you can have cheap, or a Mission PCM7000 for a decent price.
Why not try and replace the belt yourself? it is not that difficult tbh.

Buy both, have a thorough listen and sell the one you don't like. At that price you cannot go wrong.

I'd stop worrying and looking. Just buy those two a £10 each and choose as suggested. They are both quite decent and a good match for your other equipment.

I've just read reviews on the two £10 ones and build quality a problem say a lot of people
Buy them both for a tenner each, keep the one you like most and sell the other one for £20 - you've got a free cd player!

A lot of people here say they are good value. As I said earlier I have the Marantz and the build quality is perfectly fine. If, as you say, you are not prepared to spend £130 on a CD player, then just go for these two and enjoy the one you keep.
This way, you will be listening to music, which is what it is about after all.

Great player that. I think it's crackers the price these go for in spite of the fact they have been around for a while. My 901 was one of the best sounding CDPs I have heard and I'm quite sure this one won't be very far short. Well done. I hope you enjoy it.
