Excuse me for asking, but does the DAC actually work? The soldering on the IC on the bottom lefthand corner in the second picture (AD1896) looks like it is shorted across several tracks.

Yes it works and has done since I bought it, the soldering is typical Chinese quality , ive had it for three or more years with no problems , don't you take your
chances with Chinese build, I think that is common knowledge thanks phil.

As far as I am concerned I made a justified technical observation and have nothing to apologize for or be ashamed of. I would have asked even more detailed questions on ebay if it was listed there.

Hi Stan,

Sorry, although your technical observation is 'justified' in the sense that it's valid, I'm afraid that we have very strict rules about keeping sales ads free from any remarks that are liable to affect the sale of items advertised. This section of the forum exists solely for sellers to advertise their goods, and prospective buyers to register their interest.

Therefore, I must ask that if you wish to continue this discussion, that you start a separate thread about the matter in Digital Expressions, and withdraw from contributing on this one. Phil has confirmed that the DAC is working, so in this instance, that's all that matters.

Once you've read and acknowledged this post, I will remove all off-topic comments from Phil's sales thread. Of course, as ever in circumstances like this, the matter is not up for debate.

Cheers!

Marco.

I am quite surprised that potential customers are not allowed to ask questions about an item offered for sale in this section. If that's the procedure and condition by which sellers are protected and buyers aren't then I don't see that as en encouragement to buyers.
Before anyone start saying anything about me wanting to buy a DAC even though I sell my own, let me point out that I have bought three DACs in the last 12 months that were advertised on AoS. I even bought one from another AoS member within the last two weeks.

But in the interest of peace and procedure I won't be asking any question about any product put up for sale in the Private sales section if the rule is that potential buyers cannot ask questions and have to buy blind and hope for the best with their purchase.

Hi all

Dac board is fine and as it should be. Below is a photo of a new Mk3 version where you will see the same pins joined together on purpose. The only difference is that the Mk1 and Mk2 boards where hand soldered where the now Mk3 is printed/machine soldered. This dac for sale looks as it is supposed to - buy with no worries.

Well, no-one knew that you were posting a query as a potential customer, as your initial input didn't indicate that, and of course with you being a manufacturer of DACs, the automatic assumption was that you weren't interested in buying Phil's DAC, but merely making an observation - and one that could've potentially put others off from buying the DAC.

If your initial post had been along the lines of: "Hi Phil, I'm interested in this DAC, but I'm concerned that the PCB shown appears to be damaged. Could you confirm that the unit is definitely working?" You'd have received a very different reaction!

What are you doing, making Christmas decorations out of them? :D ;)

I trust that I have now cleared that up.

Anyway, nothing is stopping you now from buying the DAC, if you are genuinely interested, as it's been confirmed that it's in full working order.

Thanks for the clarification, Robert!

Perhaps now, we could all bow out of the discussion and leave Phil's ad solely for potential buyers of his DAC to respond to? :)
