Sonneteer Orton Amplifier in Silver Finish, boxed with remote control. £1200.
This is the Mk 3 version. The current version, which has a different remote control, retails at £2500.
Wonderfully clean and natural sounding integrated, with a really well judged balance between tonal naturalism and speed.
Each input has options for sensitivity, allowing high or low gain, and this makes the amp very flexible.
It is a dual mono design which came out of Sonneteer experimenting with a pair of Campions. The power rating of 33W per channel is deceptive because it has good current supply and nearly doubles into 4 Ohms. As an example, it will drive ESL 63s with no problems.
The synergy of this amp with Harbeths is well known, and it is especially brilliant with Proacs. However it will work with the majority of speakers, other than the very insensitive.
What is more surprising is that it also works well with very high sensitivity speakers. I used it briefly with Klipsch La Scala, 105 dB horns. It was a measure of how clean this amp is that it still sounded smooth and natural in this kind of set up.
This can be demoed in South London, and can be delivered to Scalford.
