Hello from Burton-upon-Trent

Hi Everyone,

My name is Dave and I joined AoS middle of last week. I am from Branston, near Burton upon Trent.

In addition to listening to music, my main interests are golf (16 handicap), football (Burton Albion season ticket holder) and real ale.

I have a very modest (and ageing) system, basically comprising Sony BDP-S760 Blu-ray Player, STR-DA2400ES AV Receiver, Beresford Bushmaster Mark 2 DAC and KEF KHT2005.2 Speakers.

Last week I upgraded from the Bushmaster Mark 1 to the Mark 2 DAC, which I power with an Anker Astro Pro2 20,000 mAh External Battery (having read some posts on the forum, I can report that mine doesn't shut down after 20 minutes!). It is the DAC that has turned my 'somewhat low end' system into a very pleasurable listening experience.

My music tastes are extremely wide, from classical through most types of rock, pop and folk (from the Beatles/Pink Floyd via Tracey Chapman/Mary Black/Eva Cassidy to Jake Bugg/Ed Sheeran). Above all, probably like most of you guys on here, I like music that has been well recorded/produced.

I think many of us here have similar tastes in music. Mary Black and (the late) Eva Cassidy are great talents. I rather like Mary Coughlan too.

What plans if any do you have for your system. Our members can advise if you have changes in mind.

I will have a look at the threads you mention about football and real ale Grant.

I will check out Mary Coughlan on your suggestion Geoff. I have seen Mary Black on a few occasions, really wished I could have seen Eva Cassidy though (next best thing, I have a copy of her only DVD recorded live at Blues Alley). No immediate plans for upgrading the system, but will certainly get the views of fellow members when I do. I mentioned Tracey Chapman in my introduction, her self-titled first album is my preferred system tester, particularly the unaccompanied track 4 and also track 6, but a great album all through in terms of quality.

Hi Phil, not good memories of Burton then! Yes we seem to get mentions at budget time, our local MP is very actively promoting the town and fighting to keep beer duty down. We are also starting to get a few mentions as our 'little unfashionable' football team is doing quite well in League 2.

Hi Jo, I know Alrewas well, my older Brother and Sister-in-Law have lived there for over forty years! Nice village.

Been somewhat busy this last couple of weeks, but hope to get involved with the forum more in the coming weeks/months.
