I picked up a '91-93 Denon DRA635r 80wpc stereo receiver. It is very good and better than 3 other newer Denon 2 channel receivers I've owned in the last 4 years.
I uses a 'New Optical Class-A' stage which I thought was all marketing hype. Though it is that it is also a circuit that uses a sliding bias to preserve class-a as the volume changes, from what I can understand, and it is the implementation of a patent by Nelson Pass.
I'm impressed with the build, shielded transformer, 4 power supply filter caps as opposed the 2 in the other newer Denons, separate discrete tuner board as opposed to the plug in tuner packs in the other Denons, separate preamp and power amp boards, and heavier gauge metal chassis w/ rubber dampening.
The sound is warm and smooth, yet clear, detailed, and rhythmic, with a nice swing to the music.
