Since loosing my job virtually over night last year i was on the Rock 'n' Roll {Contribution based benefits} for around 12 Weeks. What a nightmare till i managed to pretty much jump out the frying pan into the fire, managing to find a job if you like to call it that. However it is only 20 Hours a week. Better than being on the dole but the shifts are 5 Hours & this company {Which i hate beyond belief especially the back stabbing management} who like to think i don't have a life of my own hence they engineer my Rota so that the shifts are spread over a full week & the worse bit is i have to get up at 4am {5:30-10:30 Shifts} i only just manage to pay my bills but virtually have no money to buy anything for myself. You can imagine im getting very tired of being taken the piss out of.. I can't even get another Job because of the stupid waste of time doing this one..
I really don't know what to do.Self employed is really something i do not want to go back into.
I really just feel like running away most days.. You really don't know how quick i want these next 20 years to come, so i don't have to worry about working anymore..
Been in a few shitty jobs myself working for dicks so know where your at Andre. Its still better than being jobless in these kind of times though. You at least can keep your self respect as that is something they cant get to unless you let them.
chin up. you will get a better job soon.
I'd like to work again but am too ill now and been signed off permenently it seems....now that really makes you feel useless.

I'm on 27.5 hours a week but soon their cutting it to just 25 hours because they would like to try in house cleaning in a retail store with just 1 person thanks for that 10 hours 1 place 15 hours another. I suppose its a job even if its cleaning the best one is cleaning a water company the mud and dusty floors drive you nuts it takes a lot to get them up though you have to were a dust mask when sweeping H&S as through the windows you see all the particles you would be breathing in. Say when i first stated i needed to use a buffer machine to get the floor up together the floor is abrasive so with a buffer machine with pinch rollers & brushes IE burnt a few marks in the floor due to the faulty machine o got some stick for that as the place was newly refurbished.
In 2009 I tried to evade the dole by training other unemployed people. The money I earned per month was less than the dole would have been also less than the people I trained were to earn when again employed.
Took some time to get out of the sump via an MSc I had started while at my last employer and a follow up 30h job. It‘s hard to get job offers if you’re over 40 – even with a degree.
Never give up and rather stay on the dole to get a brush up on your skills or an additional education than taking up slave wage mcjobs.
I know that is easier said than lived, my years between 2009 and 2011 were a rather stiff experience for us with kids at school and gossip all around.

… talk, stick together, talk some more, plan and talk …
… and find yourself something to do that you love – for me this was tinkering with TTs
best of luck!

I can't think of any way to make this brief and not sound patronising. But I was in a bad place 10 years or so ago, and I'm happy to say now that far from wishing time away, at 54 I fiercely resent the lack of time remaining to me and speed at which it passes. Try - really try - Paul mckennas "change your life in 7 days". It'll cost you a tenner, and about 20 of those hours you want to use up. 2 key facets resonate having read your posts. If you accept responsibility - then you empower yourself to change the situation. If the problem is somebody elses then you are a victim. And, absolutely critically, in life we tend to get more of what we focus on. The mind is programmed to deliver what it sees and "wants". So shift your focus to the positive things you want more of, not the negative things you want to lose. Brief example. "i want to be thin" and not "I wish I wasn't so fat"
Hope it works for you. It did for me.

In exactly the same fate as you Andre, been in this dead end job just over a year and i've got repetitive strain injury after 9 months approx,
i have had to request to drop my hours together with physio to alleviate the symptom (thumb, wrist & elbow) hoping to stay in Dayshift,
instead been dumped to backshift (3.30-11pm) and forced to sign the clause to say if my symptom goes, i won't get my dayshift back. :(
Same conclusion as you regarding management and rude back stabbing colleagues,
not against me hasten to add, i go in, do my job (more than needed at times) and go,
a few of the said colleagues who are closer to the manager and supervisor back stabbed against a guy who is similar age to me mid 50's,
so management homed in on the guy, monitored and pressured him to up his work rate to a point he took a small stroke one morning late summer,
he just returned to full shift after the new year, it really is not pleasant whats going on.
I hate my job and life with a vengeance and can't find anything else at the mo.

Do you not have union representation Andy?
If you do, get them on the case. It sounds as though you (and others) have not been treated fairly.
If you have no union there, there's nothing stopping you from joining an appropriate one and becoming a workplace representative there. Only a very foolhardy employer would cause grief over that. In my experience, employers tiptoe around union reps.

Hi Geoff,
I believe there was one, but i think he lost his job tailend of last year,
the thing is when my predicament started to show and i let the manager know,
he was kinda in one ear out the other until i started asking is there something else i could do within the workplace,
by then my hand was all taped up for me to get through the shift,
i had then started my own physio via my G.P., he pointed me towards the company one,
there follows form filling and the approved company physio only to be told later that i should go back to my own,
he didn't have the decency to tell me the company is not gonna fund my treatment,
people have said why don't i go on the sick but i don't want to go down that route,
thats not my work ethic,i'd rather leave for a new job, i work in basically a production line where we're expected to keep up with machines that passes upto 1500 units per minute, taken in jams and malfunctions, if you don't hit 60k per hour(thats the bottom line), the supervisor is on to you,
the place is a hell hole without any windows, it is a secure property, the job i interviewed for wasn't what i got.
P.S. waiting for Cortisone injection and we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for your concern/advice Geoff.
you have to beware that cortisone will allow you to do more with the damaged limb but it may well cause further damage if you over strain it. it is common for sportspersons to do this and end up crippled

Grant, i didn't know that, the physio didn't highlight it to me, he administered Ultrasound for a month but no good,
apart from strapping my thumb and wrist up, i take prescribed Ibuprofen and ice pack when i get home, pretty grim TBH.

If i cause any trouble rocking the boat they will without a doubt strip my hours right down to the minimum 12 Hours. If they do that my jobs done. My contract is 12 Hours

Make a claim through a specialist company , repetitive strain should not be allowed in the workplace causing you personal injury

It reduces the inflamation etc and makes you think its all better. You then do things you couldnt before resulting in making the injury worse. If you limit yourself to doing what you are doing while in pain and no more then it may well help to improve the situation. also You can normally only get it a few times.
What I am saying is it is not a cure Andy. well it can be but not if you overuse the limb due to less pain

I am in 2 minds with that, think i am more inclined to move on TBH, seemingly others have suffered with it,
one woman actually had a operation to her shoulder while i joined the company and is now back and have been told RSI is quite prevalent in that department.

I am gonna go with it , it's affecting my everyday life, riding my bike is out of the question now, i can't even open bottles and jars or lift a plate,
it's not only how heavy an object is, it's how you turn or position of object you're lifting, even pulling/pushing the cages at work is met with a sharp pain at times. :(
