I joined this forum as I Googled about the Videologic Scirocco speaker system I have had for some time and just started using on a bedroom TV. I found someone here asking about it, so I thought I'd join. Actually it's an amazing system as a "TV speaker" system, and as someone here was asking about it, I thought I'd offer any help I can.

(BTW, I do video shooting/editing professionally, and usually use PMC monitor speakers!)

Hello Martin. Welcome to AOS.

I know nothing about the Scirocco speakers you mention. A photo or two would be interesting.

What are you using them with and what music do you listen to?

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. (Any gals here at all? - I know hi-fi is manly a man-thing!)

Here's a pic:

...not mine, but a library shot. They're an interesting product - not really hi-fi, but actually an attempt at hi-fi PC speakers - on the market in the very early 2000s. The set consists of a box with five amps in it, a subwoofer and two satellites. It's only 2.1 format though. The amps are for the sub-woofer and separate amps for the midrange units and tweeters in the satellites. The satellites are hence bi-wired and bi-amped.

It all sounds really good - and there was even a pro version with balanced XLR inputs, aimed at the studio market.
Videologic then became PureAudio, and every product became DAB-radio-oriented, and they stopped the speaker production.

I use this setup for TV sound in the bedroom. For "main hifi" I am a PMC fan, having a pair of (in order!) DB1s, TB1s, LB1s, OB1s.... The OB1s are the best, driven by a Quad 405-2 that I modernised/re-capped recently to bring it back to spec and up to date.

Thanks again for the welcome guys. I have spent a few days looking around, to gauge the place.

Unfortunately, it's not the sort of place I can stay: for example, selling IEC mains cables (kettle leads) for £850 - which I guess will find a market, having seen such snake-oil being taken seriously already. I like to think I am a tolerant man, and if someone wants to convince themselves this is money well spent, or worse, they can "hear" any benefit from such nonsense, that's fine by me, but this forum and its members are not for me. I'm an electronics engineer, and I've already seen hostility towards such "objectivity" here.

I'll see if I can delete my own account now. If not, mods, please do so from your end.

Regards

Martin
