In my search for interesting and inexpensive high-end audio.
Audiolabor VV2020 preamplifier on its way from German Ebay.

From about 1977.
Designed by Helmut Brinkmann (now http://www.brinkmann-audio.de).

Has anybody seen or heard this pre-amp?

No but the hole to stick your 'head' in seems a bit small

Be interesting to see what you make of it. Are the Phono 1 and Phono 2 selections for MM and MC I wonder?

Yes it has both MM and MC.
It used to be the reference for German mag "Audio" for some time. "On the level of Accuphase C-220 and Burmester".

Here tech information:

Here is my Audiolabor VV-2020. Does not look like much?

This was sold as defective because there is no cover and front. Otherwise in good condition.
It is about the size of Quad 33, but twice as many components. Circuit boards are stacked on top of each other.
Signal path has been minimized.

This has a low serial number. Feels like cottage industry stuff. No voltage numbers on the external power supply, no manufacturer name.
I have seen these before on Ebay.de. Usually without external power supply. When in use with Audiolabor power amp, 24 volts were
supplied from the amp.

Germans said: "On the level of Accuphase C-220 and Burmester".
Boy, they were not kidding. This thing sings.

Love it, Juha - just the kind of lateral thinking/left-field choices we like to see on AoS! :respect:

Sounds like real 'sound-per-pound’ (or sound-per-Euro, rather) you’ve got going on there… Enjoy

Marco.

I have to stop this madness. I now have 3 of these.

Bought all recent ones that were sold on German Ebay.
Prices have been between £ 50 - 80.

These are really good.
A-class pre-amp, fully symmetrical, MM and MC phono.

Brinkmann who designed this pre-amp sells their current pre at £3000.
On their documents he references to the VV2020 as a direct descendant of the current series.

These are a bit of a bargain.
