I'm hardly expecting this to be a massive thread. But I just think this needs saying.

I've had a 64 plate Jag for well over a week now - which means it has the latest Meridian in-car system in it.

It is bloody excellent. Best in-car system I have heard. If you could buy it separately I'd think about putting some Meridian gear in my own motor.

Does anyone know who makes the speaker drive units? Or is it really Meridian?

If it is the same as the one in the Range Rover it is a Meridian Signature Reference System. costs 4 grand

Probably optimised for the car interior somehow as well I suspect.

It really is good well done Meridian. I am sure there is better but this is genuinely adequate, LOL.

I have the meridian system in my Landy I've had since March. Not what I'd call hifi but it's ok for an ICE system.

I think it is just a standard XJ fit, not the one struth linked to.

Interesting that the Burmester system is rated better by that link because when I surfed the Porsche forums people didn't seem to think that much of it.

I went for a standard fit in my Porsche but TBH I am dreaming. They are not worth a decent system because of the engine noise (great though it is) and tyre roar on poor road surface.

The Jag system is very good but it won't blow your mind like great home hi-fi. I'd rate it better than quite a lot of sounds I heard at the Bristol show recently though.

Spec appears to be this:

"First, there’s the Meridian™ 380W Sound System. With 14 speakers surrounding you from all angles, including two subwoofers and two front door woofers, it delivers an all-encompassing audio experience."

So it is the least expensive XJ Meridian option.

The hi-fi is good but I have to say I really don't like the car much. Apart from motorway cruising which it is just awesomely comfortable.

For some reason I feel like I need a big gut, a beard and a suit.

Here you go

Choices of 380W, 770W, 825W or 1700W with between 10 and 29 speakers depending on the package. My LR has 825/17

"In the upper-end Jaguar and Land Rover Meridian audio systems, Meridian's Trifield technology expands the sense of space within the cabin, creating an all-enveloping sound field that places each occupant center stage. Derived from an algorithm found in Meridian's critically acclaimed digital surround processors for home use, Trifield blends the center and surround channels seamlessly with left and right channels, through a collection of side, front and rear speakers, yielding a consistent, concert-like experience, optimized for all seating positions.
Expanding on the benefits of Trifield, Meridian's Trifield 3D is a groundbreaking world's-first technology that truly brings musical performances to life. The addition of dedicated height channels adds an increased sense of scale and definition to music. All the instruments, performers and venues of favorite performances are rendered in true scale and location. The result moves the listener beyond the two-dimension depth and width of the stage and brings the third dimension of height to each performance.
Jaguar XF
The 2014 Jaguar XF line offers two Meridian systems. The Premium Package adds the Meridian Sound System 380W which comes standard in the XF Supercharged model. This can be upgraded to an optional Meridian Surround Sound System 825W that is standard in the XFR and XFR-S.
The Meridian Sound System 380W utilizes 11 speakers including one subwoofer and discrete digital amplifier sound equalization technology. The 825W version is a 7.1-channel surround system that utilizes 17 speakers, including one subwoofer. The Meridian's Trifield surround mode places each occupant in the center of the sound field while Meridian Cabin Correction and Dynamic Volume Control maintain consistent volume level by monitoring extraneous noise levels and continually minimizing resonances.
Jaguar XJ
The 2014 Jaguar XJ models offer a choice of three Meridian premium audio systems. The standard Meridian Sound System 380W utilizes 14 speakers including two subwoofers, and separate digital amplifier sound equalization technology. The 825W version uses a 15-channel, 20-speaker surround sound system and adds the Meridian's Trifield surround mode, Meridian Cabin Correction and Dynamic Volume Control.
The XJ long-wheelbase models for 2014 introduce the 1,300W Meridian Reference Surround System with 26 speakers strategically placed around the cabin. With three additional speakers (two 80mm speakers and one 25mm tweeter) located in the rear of each of the front seats, the system provides rear seat passengers with a personal soundstage experience.
This top Meridian system also integrates Conversation Assist. Using microphones located above each seating position, this feature channels passengers' voices through the audio system speakers, mixing music and speech volume accordingly, to enable clearer conversation.
Jaguar F-TYPE
The latest addition to the Jaguar family, the F-TYPE sports car, offers a standard Meridian Sound System 380W with 10 speakers including subwoofers. The separate digital amplifiers use proprietary Meridian Digital Dither Shaping, Digital Signal Processing and Cabin Correction. The optional Meridian Surround Sound system 770W version (standard in F-TYPE R Coupe) plays through 12 speakers, including 2 subwoofers, and includes the Meridian's Trifield surround mode.
Land Rover Meridian Systems
The pinnacle of Meridian in-car technology, the Meridian Signature Reference System available for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, showcases the stunning 1,700W 3D Surround Sound system with 29 speakers (23 speakers in Range Rover Sport), including a subwoofer. Meridian's Trifield 3D technology, with speakers mounted at roof level, offers the ultimate surround-sound experience.
The Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover LR2 and LR4 models all offer a 380W, 11-speaker Meridian Sound System as well as an optional Meridian Surround Sound System 825W with 17 speakers and Meridian's Trifield technology.

So Clark does the Trifield 3D technology ensure all passengers get a great experience?

My sister has an F-Type I'll check out her Meridian effort next time I am round there. I think there's no way it'll be close to the Jag cos of the internal space. My bro has an Evoque which I reckon will beat the F-Type too. Mine will lose to both:(
