Dual 506

This is my Dual 506 belt drive turntable that I got back in the Summer of '79.
It's been reliable with rock stable speed and seems to be able to track nearly anything I put on it.
It has an Audio Technica AT140LC cartridge on it. Lately, the speed selection has gotten a bit iffy on it.
It will switch over to 45, but has to be manually prompted by moving the belt by hand back to the 33 speed.
Oh well, it's 36 years old...a bit of crankiness is to be expected I guess. :D

Have you put a new belt on it? That may well cure it.

Looks lovely in the wooden plinth compared to the plastic of lesser models :thumbsup:

There is a small belt for the speed-change mekanics. It evaporates after all the years. You can buy both belts at ebay.de.

Yes, I installed a new belt the other day and have a new toothed belt for the pitch that I need to install.
Maybe I'll get to that this weekend.

Replaced the pitch belt this morning. Now, for whatever reason, it's changing speeds accurately again! :)

Those ultra low mass arms came in at just the wrong time, but I've a sneaky suspicion, conformed by your good self, that the better AT MM cartridges would be quite at home (I use an AT120e in my flimsy-armed Garrard AP76 and it's a great match).

Dual turntable ownership can be a bit of a guilty pleasure, but they do have a great knack of communicating the music well, despite the auto gubbins :)
