Something nice for Stabi S and older Stabi decks: an aftermarket sandwich platter by a local specialist.

I have one for more than a year and it strongly improves detail and dynamics. However one has to be careful because the deck needs a good re-tuning and a precise VTA re-bias (if you don't take care, you may end with bright and dry result).

It's enough to use a normal felt mat, no need for anything exotic.

Hi Anubisgrau
Didnt want to open up a new discussion, can ı just ask your opinions about your Kuzma deck?
I am interested in buying one and wondered if you are happy with it? How can you describe its characteric? Have you had any chance to compare it other TTs?
Many thanks.

well, i like it - i wouldn't have it if different. but it's not the only deck in my home, actually in last months i use more garrard 301 with FR64fx arm. the main reason is that it can accommodate my current reference pickup - SPU spirit (stogi S arm has a fixed shell). in short, it's detailed, relaxed and rich, good enough to carry very expensive cartridges (some even use AN IO on it). i have to say i'm using it with an aftermarket platter which is not produced by kuzma called bayadera and it helps improving resolution, at least in my room and with benz micro ACE SL i'm using - plus my overall sound of my system (tubes and horns) is easy, bold and relaxed so the additional detail this platter brings doesn't affect the sound in the way it does with some thin sounding systems (one ATC owner didn't like it).

my final plan is to upgrade stogi S arm to stogi 4P as well as ACE SL to shilabe miyajima and to retire there - i believe the base is good enough to carry this combination.

Btw, there's a test unit of this platter currently in the UK - if you own a Kuzma deck and interested in trying it pls contact me via PM and I will pass on the details.

Nah, big heavy platter on a deck with a tufnol bearing is just asking for accelerated bearing wear and added noise. It wouldn't fit mine anyway as my bearing, sub and platter are all from an Lp12

Attn Kuzma Stabi (of all kinds) owners, there is a Bayadera upgrade platter available for home demo/test in the UK.

All you have to do is to send it or pass it to the next tester once you are finished. You can have it for a few weeks so no need to rush.

My personal thought is that whoever think of any sort of upgrade of his Kuzma deck (like better arm, cartridge, speed controller etc) should first hear what this platter makes out of you deck immediately, it's a simple, one minute operation.

Pls PM me and I will forward your details for delivery.

On my Stabi S:

That's a rather beautiful thing, Gordan, and which I don't doubt offers a significant sonic upgrade over the stock platter, if my experience of aftermarket platters on the Technics SL-1210 is anything to go by! :)

Folk who own T/Ts. where this kind of experimenting isn't offered, quite simply have no idea of the type of sonic improvements that can be achieved by upgrading such a fundamentally important part of the design of any turntable.

How heavy is it?

Simon seems to think it is too heavy for the bearing, any thoughts on that?

If you are asking me I don't know because I don't know how heavy this replacement is*. I believe it is an acrylic and aluminium sandwich construction (looks nicely made) so it's possible it's no heavier at all. I don't see why fitting one should need an entire reset of the deck though as there's no suspension in this turntable. In fact, it could hardly be more simple.

* However, in general I would not recommend increasing the load on a bearing (i.e. add more mass) unless that bearing is designed to take it. Even then, noise from the thrust plate will increase and/or the speed of wear.

Hi,

I see this question about weight only now. Subjectively, it's lighter than a stock platter but I need to check. Please bear with me..... for sure it is much lighter than Kozma's double stock platter option.

On the other note, if there is anyone interested in giving a try in his/her system, there is a testing sample at the moment in the UK ready to be sent to you. Pls PM if interested...

the thread was hibernating for quite a while so just a quick note to mention that the test platter will be sent back to the manufacturer next week, unless someone is interesting in purchasing it for 300e which is a nice discount from the original 500e. it comes with all the original packaging as at the pics.

for those who asked, the platter is lighter than the original kuzma one hence it presents less pressure on the bearing, especially when compared to the double platter upgrade that kuzma sells.

second test unit sold to a happy tester in the UK.
