What did you make of the article then?

Interesting comparison between the PH and aluminium, which pretty much backs up what I’ve always said about the latter. That’s why Speedy Steve’s ebony tonearm boards are so good [and metal ones often sound ‘wrong’]! ;)

WTF's wrong with multi-marine ply? Best and quietest I ever heard a 301 as inevitable vibrations seem very well absorbed and not a hint of 'rumble...'

Seconded regarding hard-wood arm boards, or maybe wooden boards in general if they're not allowed to flop about as the Linn ones used to be (I think the new basic sub-chassis has all-round contact for the board...)

The experiment was very poorly designed and I do not trust the findings. :( I agree with you regards the ebony tonearm board, I have one.

There is nothing wrong with birch ply and I have my 301 sitting in just such a design. However I believe I can get more out of the 301 and panzerholz could be the answer.

send your motor to martin bastin and he will make it less sensitive to the plinth choice than it is at the moment.

Unless I've read it wrong, the aly is dead up to nearly 3kHz,and the Panzerholz contributes low level broadband noise (mush) for a long time. On round three results, that is.
