Hi Guys
Just saw a minty Technics New Class A system in a skip at my local recycling center its a skip where your normaly allowed to take stuff on being records , CDs that they cant sell or dont think is worth money. I i asked and even offered them cash of £30 to take it and still no they stopped selling electrical gear 10+ years ago but have bought home speakers and turntables before. It had all remote manuals. Only technics but it looks nice and you want to save it but nothing can be done.

might be a legal thing re safety of electrical goods
The boys at the yard already have that marked mate.:(

This is a skip for stuff to go into land fill shame usually i wouldn't be bothered but its gonna great on me now.
Yes theirs a law legislation over safety ETC Years ago it was fine but now no chance.
Maybe im overreacting maybe i need a licence to buy electrical gear which you can get :scratch: for all i know it could be broken but its the name of the game.

At our local centre they stopped allowing any and all 'retrieval' some years ago... especially electricals.
before that I would often bring home more junk than I took there - still have a really nice oak bookcase from the good old days ;)

It's an EU law now, sadly and I've been up against it at my local tip recently too. I wrote to the Environment Agency and to my local MP who raised it in Parliament, but the answer is still No. The likes of you and I can no longer buy this stuff any more unless we have T11 Exemption license for repairing or refurbishing electrical waste.
You can apply for one here - https://www.gov.uk/environmental-permit-how-to-apply. The downside is that it'll cost you £840 for a 3 year license.
Way to go with the drive for recycling, eh? :rolleyes:

I just missed a mint office chair being dumped in the 'metal recycling' skip and couldn't claim that either, despite it being in easy reach. the chaps dumping a load of office stuff were at t'other end of yard sadly and I couldn't catch them in time :(

Correct - once it's in the skip it becomes council property.
I can see it now - loads of TAOS members furtively loitering around the electrical skip whilst council employees shoo them away , only for them to reappear:D

I was under the impression that once it was on their land, that was it, you can't have it, even if the person that had taken it there says you can.

Can't see how that would work. If that was the case then the car you drove to the tip and everything in it would automatically become their property too.

Unless you bung the boys a few quid to ‘turn a blind eye’… Always worth taking a wad of cash with you to the skip for that reason! Rules are usually quickly forgotten, in my experience, when you get a couple of tenners out ;)

Sadly the whole current policy is so stupid in so many ways that to prevent common sense breaking out quite a few tips now have CCTV cameras. These are there primarily, it seems, to stop the staff re-allocating stuff either to themselves (and then, via eBay, back into the community) or to other visitors in return for 'donations to charity' (i.e. the staff's beer and fags fund) :(.

The lads at my local tip are pretty decent. They always give me a hand and anything that is good they will keep out of the skip for future relocation. Even if there is nowt of value they will often empty my car for me. My bin men now take my bin in and out for me without being asked as they saw me struggling with it once.

I've been saying for some time that UKIP are the greatest trick Tory central office has devised yet. A holding pen for the disaffected Tory and Labour votes without requiring them to modify their more mainstream policies. They'll scoop em all up in a sordid coalition.
The greens may end up being the same thing to Labour.
As it stands I dont think UKIP will get enough seats to be kingmakers but a 3 way coalition with whats left of the Lib Dems could be a possibility, Maybe worth a punt.
