Bushmaster 1 and Jriver

Have a BM mk1 which I use as a headphone amp/dac in my work pc setup.
Use Jriver to play music, the dac is connected to the PC by optical cable.

Any Bushmaster/Jriver users advise on something?

In Jriver audio setup options you tell it what your output device is.
Any other Dac I've connected to Jriver usually "broadcasts" itself and you can select it specifically in Jriver.
i.e. Young Wasapi/ Kernel Streaming for my Young Dac.
Nowt like this with the Bushmaster in Jriver?

I do have "High Definition Audio Device (WASAPI) listed, but playback does not work, even with 16/44.
To listen to music I need to select "Default Audio Device (Direct Sound)", so no kernel streaming etc.
I'm using Windows , do I need third party drivers like ASIO4ALL to get the Bushmaster to do its thing it Jriver?

Anyone with direct experience of the dac?

More curious than anything else why its not working...
Installed ASIO4ALL...Jriver plays via the dac, but no sound.
Sure its a JRiver thing.

I have never tried direct streaming myself since I can't get hold of the direct streaming add-on for Mediamonkey. It's vanished without a trace from the internet for some reason.
Never played with JRiver myself. Are you using a USB converter between JRiver and the BM?

All the audio programs that support kernel streaming say in their instructions that you should select the audio output mode depending on the ones that are available. I am surprised that you blamed the Bushmaster for your not supporting Jriver. Jriver has no way of knowing what the make and model of a DAC is that is connected to it through a one way SPDIF connection. It would only recognize the audio device on the PC, or a USB or Bluetooth two way link. Do a read up on kernel streaming in Jriver, Winamp and Foobar.
There is a good article at http://hifi-advice.com/Winamp5-kernel-streaming-info.html and the writer even ran into the same issue and discovered the solution. He wasn't using one of my DACs by the way, just to clarify.

Good to point that out Stan.
As the bushmaster didn't have USB I had to use optical...which Jriver didn't get on with.

No blame mate, the DAC sounded great, just one of those things.

What's kernel streaming btw? ;)
