View Full Version : What’s the best system you’ve heard/seen on YouTube?
Just a bit of fun outlining systems, which despite the ‘MP3’ limitations of YouTube, still sound very good, and also sound quality aside, contain components that fit your idea of audio nirvana….
I’ll kick off with this system, set-up in a jazz cafe in Japan, by the one and only Kenrick Sound:

In a word, stunning! :wow:

Yeah, I remember hearing that Western Electric system before when someone linked to it - sounds awesome [with music that plays to its strengths] :)
Not really superb sound quality (and the music is dire), but thought some folk might be curious seeing GC’s room and what he uses as a system:
tCFhBmy6XFQ
Different! It’d be really funny if someone sneaked up behind him and went ‘BOOOO!!’ :D
Marco.
sometime last year a yank was showing a complete pioneer system he purchased at a "yard sale".
the lucky f**ker had a upper range DD turntable, sx1250 receiver..all lights lit, all controls working and a pair of the big HPM white drivers speakers.
the vid took a tour through the workings and controls, kept in a dustfree cab and all smokefree blah blah.
"so what" I hear you say. he paid up front for the receiver and arranged collection later to discover the turntable and loverly speakers where included.......SEVENTY FIVE BUCKS!!!
LUCKY SOD.

If you search the Kenrick Sound vids you will see them installing a pair of even bigger JBL's (similar to these) in someone's apartment. The vids of the stuff they have in their showroom is the stuff of dreams.

Of all the Kenricks, the vaguely practical Pioneer Exclusive 2402 is what I'd have. The Rey Audio RM-11BC looks to be very similar indeed. Anyone know the connection?
I might ask 'em how much they want for a pair. Then factor in £x million shipping costs, plus £y million super rip-off import tax. Not that practical after all. Damn.
Kenrick give you the rotten feeling the era of making great speakers is dead and gone. Bastards!:D

Yeah, dude, I’ve seen that vid before. Freakin’ awesome! It’s exactly the kind of thing I’d be doing if/when we move to a bigger house, with a listening room on the ground floor. I wouldn’t hesitate to import something like that.
Of course it wouldn’t be cheap, but when you consider how much so-called ‘high-end’ speakers cost today (say a pair of Focal Utopias, for example), paying for and importing a pair of Hartsfields from Japan should leave some change, and produce a sound that would make a mockery of any loudspeakers made these days! ;)
Marco.
oZOTW74Vgfc
Sounds ok, Roger, but what is it we’re listening to? The problem with a lot of this stuff is the dire music being played - it’s all too audiophile, middle of the road, and ‘safe’ for my tastes!
Marco.
I see that system is also using the Morel Fat Lady speakers which I thought were one of the best sounds at show a few years ago in Munich.

Indeed, although I like *some* jazz music. I’m not big on trad-jazz. I found the sound a bit too ‘clean’ and ‘hifi’ for my tastes, though.
Marco.
To answer the original question - mine.
My system is the limiting factor here, along with MP3. I don't go looking for YouTube clips of uber-systems, as the recordings are often dire.
I'd much rather listen to my uncompressed music. :ner:
I would rather look at still pictures, and then try to have a real listen at some point. The list is getting longer...
It’s just a bit of fun, dude :)
Marco.
Another Kenrick Audio delight….
What a system and listening room (and clearly a music lover, although what he was playing was not to my taste)! The room is nice and ‘lived in’ too, which I respect, rather than the soulless and insipid ‘footballer’s wife show home’ look so many folk [usually, personality-free social climbers] seem to favour these days!!
r8MrNKmBBEo
Only thing is, I wouldn’t put the kit right in between the speakers like that.
Marco.
I realise it's a bit of fun. It says so in the original post. ;)
A picture is enough for me though.

Not really.
I agree. Your average camera mic is pretty pathetic. I speak from experience of shooting loads of hi-fi videos - the proof in there on YouTube.
The Samsung NV24HD I had was dire. The Sony RX100 I now use is better. But it is still a far cry from decent.
A few are shot with decent mics - like Kenrick. They are few and far between, though.
Some sound is better than no sound, though, for any sort of attempt at judging SQ, so get it right up ye! :ner:
Crap microphones or not (and I do agree on that point), I can usually ‘hear through’ those limitations and detect what kit I consider *may* have some promise. If your ears aren’t good enough for that, then don’t blame me - just learn to live with it!!
;)
Marco.
Vivid imagination + wishful thinking. You can't 'hear through it' no matter how golden ones ears as the info just isn't there to hear.
Vivid imagination + wishful thinking.
Nah, not at all. For example, I’d be confident that if I went over to Japan and visited Kenrick Sound, I’l be every bit as impressed (most likely more so), with those huge JBLs, as I was watching the YouTube video of them! :)
If you can’t tell anything about equipment SQ, from playing YouTube views, that’s fine, but don't presume that others can’t. It’s got nothing to do with “golden ears”, just instinct - and (with good reason) I trust my instincts.
Marco.
Or even others think they can.
Some representation is better than nowt but I have a lot more experience of actually shooting the things, knowing what it sounded like then hearing the videos.
You get a representation but it isn't really that representative, if you catch my drift.
No question it is better than nowt, though. Even bad mics aren't trying to lie they are just shite by default:D
Of course. However, I’ve taken a punt and bought stuff for my system before, on the basis of far less ‘evidence' - and rarely been disappointed.
Like I said, I use my gut instincts when judging kit all the time, and often a simple YouTube clip is enough to satisfy them, prompting further investigation of whatever it is that has piqued my interest.
Hey, it works for me! That doesn’t necessarily mean the process is going to work for anyone else :)
Marco.
If you have watched enough Kenrick videos you will have seen the reflections of the kit used to film it.
They are trying to sell speakers at the end of the day so not surprising.
Mics do seem to pick up room acoustics that ears do not. Which is curious. I wonder if we as humans kind of filter that out somehow.
Possibly… I just filter out the crap and tune into the stuff that suggests whatever I’m listening to has promise.
Trust me, one day I’ll do some business with Kenrick, and it’ll likely be a speaker purchase, as my interest has been suitably piqued! ;)
Marco.

I am not one for hi end hifi videos etc, but i like the kenrick sound delivery guys ( sling over shoulder etc).
Now I realise what I prat I must look like filming at shows. I kinda suspected it:lol:
Marco, buy the big JBLs on the front wall they seem to have been there forever. Buy those and a suitable house and earn some respect.;)
Well ,i have just listened to everything on this thread. The only one i liked was Shanes ,those little celestions done good, sounded just like someone was playing the drums. All the big systems sounded unreal and overblown.Just goes to show that we all want something different from this hobby..:)
Indeed…
However, overblown? How often do you go and listen to live (acoustic) music, Alan, particularly full-scale classical orchestra? :)
Marco.
I worked at Glyndebourne opera house for five years.I know what a sixty piece orchestra sounds like up close, and it's not like those big speaker set ups.
I worked at Glyndebourne opera house for five years.I know what a sixty piece orchestra sounds like up close, and it's not like those big speaker set ups.
Then again, it's even less like a small speaker set up.:)
Interesting… Well we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one. You certainly can’t reproduce the physical scale and sheer ‘grunt’ of an orchestra in full flow using a pair of bookshelf speakers! ;)
I like to ‘feel’ the music, as well as hear it - just as you do in real iife when attending live music events, when the ‘big guns' come out!
Marco.
Then again, it's even less like a small speaker set up.:)
Indeed!!
Marco.
Fair enough,as most of the music was by mozart the only "big guns" were worn by the ladies. No brass in the orchestra as he couldn't stand them...
Lol - very good! :D
Thing is, you can’t achieve anything approaching the palpable scale and ‘heft’, or visceral intensity of an orchestra in full flow: that ‘surge’, swell and impetus you get [and can feel] when bombastic crescendos kick in, such as, say, during Shostakovich’s 4th Symphony. It’s truly breathtaking! Or for those canons to *sound* like CANONS on Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture...
It’s that 'brutal physicality’ and dynamic impact you often get with live music that makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, and which puts a big grin on my face - and I seek to replicate that effect, as far as possible from my hi-fi system, when the music demands. To do that, you need to SHIFT PLENTY OF AIR, which of course can’t be done with a pair of diddy-sized ‘squawk-boxes’…. ;)
Marco.
Some representation is better than nowt but I have a lot more experience of actually shooting the things, knowing what it sounded like then hearing the videos.
You get a representation but it isn't really that representative, if you catch my drift.
I do indeed. Would you agree then that, in general, the sound heard ‘in situ’ is usually far better than the representation of the sound you capture when filming?
Marco.
I'd say the better the system the greater the failure to capture its essence with shitty camera microphones.
That said I did try to record the Martin Logan CLX when it came out with a fairly decent Rowland portable digital recorder - well £250 worth. That wasn't brilliant either. I still have those recordings somewhere. The Kenrick stuff is probably about as good as it gets.
Note that YouTube posting screws the recordings quite badly even when played back at 720P HD. When I post and compare to the original video the quality loss is quite marked.
oZOTW74Vgfc
Theme tune to The Pink Panther, MBL Radialstrahler 101E MKII.
I'll admit to having used this track a few times myself.
Noted, Justin - thanks.
I'd say the better the system the greater the failure to capture its essence with shitty camera microphones.
Therefore, if despite all those limitations the sound produced still shows promise, then chances are you’re not going to be disappointed hearing whatever it is in the flesh [as it will only be better], hence why (for me) a decent YouTube video can work, and so it has a limited, but worthwhile function.
That was the point I was trying to make :)
Marco.
As long as you accept you can be wildly misled by it not knowing the equipment using to record it. Some videos of great kit on there sound apalling.
Then again that should be fairly obvious.
If you watch all my Munich 2014 videos you at least know it is done by the same camera. One problem is keeping your fingers off the tiny mic inlets. Harder than you might think. Unfortunately Silbatone got hit by that problem. You should hear when that happens easily, though.
If you can’t tell anything about equipment SQ, from playing YouTube views, that’s fine, but don't presume that others can’t. It’s got nothing to do with “golden ears”, just instinct - and (with good reason) I trust my instincts.
Marco.
I would respond by saying 'instinct' doesn't exist - you don't have some magical sense that allows you to hear stuff that isn't there - honestly, get a grip. I don't have to presume anything - all these vids are recorded using wildly different equipment and you are listening to that and the room as much as you are the equipment (more so even) - surely that is obvious?
This thread was fun when it was presented as nothing more - but once it was revealed as actually being a valid method of evaluation it stopped being fun.
Yup - the next time I am in the market for a SUT I'll be using YouTube videos... not!:D
I catch Marco's drift, but it is pretty dodgy.

Then ignore this thread, Mark, because you’re adding nothing positive to it and starting to piss me off. So *you* get a grip and respect the fact that I can use my instincts in that way, as you are in no position to judge otherwise, and leave it there.
Marco.
I catch Marco's drift, but it is pretty dodgy.
I never said it wasn’t, but unlike some others, at least you have the manners to respect that what I’m saying is valid for *me*.
One of the primary tenets of this forum is for members ALWAYS to respect someone’s else's contrary opinion, and their right to hold it, whether they agree or not, without judging what they can or cannot do. Now, for the duration of this thread, all I want to see here are YouTube contributions, relating to the thread topic - anything else will be removed without further warning.

Interesting… As you’d expect, from a system of that nature, it sounds softer, rounded-off, and less dynamic than the real instruments do. I’ve heard a lot worse, though!
Neil, I’m not sure it’s meant to be 'proper music', as such, but rather a collection of 'live sounds’, made by real instruments and played by the band, purely to demonstrate a point - in effect a 'jamming session'. I’m not expecting the album to be released anytime soon! ;)

Those could change your mind at $80,000 they aren't your average Quad. Far from it. Immense scale and pretty good dynamics for a stat. Probably in the best 5 of the rooms at Munich I think. Maybe one of the best 20 odd contemporary speakers in the world. Maybe, very maybe... but that's still pretty good.
I’ll take your word for it, dude… However, the deal breaker for me would be the looks. I can't stand the aesthetics of ‘panel’ speakers - I wanna see a some big ‘fuck-off’ drive units, in even bigger [wider] boxes, winking at me while I’m listening!! ;)

Beg to differ I think they look fantastic. The Tannoy Westminster Royals at Munich sounded poor and looked sh*te by comparison - just nowhere near as good to these ears. They were playing a cool Depeche Mode track from Exciter, though, so a big plus for that. That's not a dig at you I like some Tannoys very much.
No, I know it’s not a dig, and certainly wasn’t taken as such :)
Aesthetics are personal thing. When you consider that I’m in awe at the looks of, say, the huge JBLs, shown in the first video on this thread, or the likes of the JBL Hartsfields, shown in the Kenrick Sound videos, and cite those as templates for what I consider looks good, you’ll understand why I don’t like the MLs….. Essentially, I hate the ‘wire mesh’ look on panel speakers.
Incidentally, Westminsters don’t particularly do it for me either. My passion for Tannoys likes mainly with vintage 15" Monitor Reds and Golds, in suitably large enclosures… Now if you’d said Autographs, instead of Westminsters…. ;)

Interesting stuff, Luis, and sounds pretty good, although sonically, a little too ‘digital squeaky-clean’ perhaps for my tastes. However, that could simply be the mics used for the video and goodness knows what else… Not heard that song sung that way before either!
I approve of the Furutech FI-range carbon-fibre XLRs, as I use the IEC plugs and DIN socket (on my Yannis tonearm lead) from that range to excellent effect in my system. Do you know what the electronics are, shown in the video? :)

Superb! :)

£15.5K for those. A pair of JBL Hartsfields? A mere £36,100.
The latest Everest Project DD67000 are very in your face - capable of ripping your lugholes out with ML amps. You can get an idea of what I mean from this. That brass was pretty harsh in zee flesh. £60K I believe or thereabouts.
They are bloody entertaining though. Shame I didn't shoot with more flattering material.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fOkHbj8iYg
Indeed. Lovely speakers, perhaps played a bit too loudly? Also, as good as the ML amps are, the Everests are probably designed more with valves in mind than ‘muscle’ SS amps. Being so efficient, they simply don’t need all that power! :nono:
Btw, do you know what’s interesting (component wise) with the system shown in my last post? Clue: something in it sounds uncannily good for its cheap-as-chips price….
Marco.
Nope something to do with the TT?
Yes, the cartridge is a Shure M44G - yours for a MASSIVE……………………………..£55.00!!

It certainly doesn’t sound like a ‘cheap DJ cartridge' to me…..
http://www.shure.com/americas/products/phono/m44g-dj-record-needle
Marco.
Well... its not very complex program. Quite a few cheap carts can sound very OK until the going gets complex.
If we are even listening to it... very easy to cheat on a vid like that.
Well... its not very complex program. Quite a few cheap carts can sound very OK until the going gets complex.
I agree, but I’ve heard enough there to indicate that the Shure may be worth investigating (as a fun ’SPPV’ option), particularly because someone who owns a system like that (with those speakers) isn’t going to use a duff cartridge, or choose that particular one for no good reason…
Watch this space ;)
Marco.
Cool. Let's hope it isn't a lemon:)

Perhaps, but I’m going to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Marco.
Cool. Let's hope it isn't a lemon...
For £55? Half the cost of a meal for two in a decent restaurant…. Let’s find out :)
Marco.
Kenrick price for Pioneer Exclusive 2402 is £8K.
These seem to be about £350 if that is Russian Ruble. Must be. WTF?
http://www.hi-fi.ru/auction/detail/1010151
I'm trying to buy them:) Bet I get nowhere. Actually maybe the $ price is the price. Confused. There are two prices in $? And one in rubles?
Lol - dunno… Fancy a pair, then? Too small for me, and most likely a downgrade from my Lockwoods. If I were changing those, I’d be aiming higher, at some of the JBLs featured here.
Hartsfields are probably where my heart lies. They’d be a go-er if we moved to a bigger house… Expensive yes, but not outrageously so, in today’s high-end terms :)
Marco.
Well they're smaller than my Duettas by a margin. Less bass radiating area by a massive amount. But yeah I'd buy them at £350, LOL. Pretty sure he wants the dollar prices but it is just so confusing looking at the translation.
They will sound substantial though - I bet that horn chucks sound all over the place.
Ideal speaker? Probably not. But what is?
Marco - have you ever heard Hartsfields in the flesH?
No, but I’d be seriously interested in them when/if we move house - certainly enough to fly over to Japan and have a listen, (and if the time was right) place an order if they blew me away.
Only if they can thump out Tool at ‘silly’ levels, though, without going all ‘farty’…. :eyebrows:
Marco.
Following on from the Kenrick thread, as promised.
Looks like this is the best that can be done. So shot by the same camera used to do the Munich videos - a Sony RX100.
Cross comparisons with the Kenrick videos is a little unfair given the h/w they use but hey.
Don't get sea sick now:) Track appears at around 5:45 I believe. Can tell it is no fake as I move around about 2:15 and you can hear the sound change.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR9ehP80E2E&feature=youtu.be
What we need now is one of you shakin’ ya booty to da boogie…. :D
Erm, maybe not….
Anyway, I thought it sounded excellent, and clearly (for me) you’ve got a great sound going on there! So, could you give us a list of your system components? Do the valve amps drive the Apogees ok, as they’re a notoriously difficult load? :)
Marco.
Standard Duettas are pretty easy constant 4 Ohms across the entire frequency range. These are easier to drive than standard Duettas. I was going to try and get a sensitivity reading but haven't got round to it yet. They are defo easier than standard Duetta Sigs which need around 100 Watts. I think it is the frame\stands I spec'd holding the ribbons in place without vibrating all over the place.
There's a strong, strong lesson to be learned there. Planar's may not have box colouration, but speakers the size of doors that extend to 20Hz will move around at volume when the going gets loud unless they are very strongly built. These are. Standard Duettas aren't really, though they are bloody heavy.
Anyway, Lampi B7 to modified by Hit Audio Cayin SC-10 to Austria Analog 211s (80 Watts but can peak at 170). There's enough power with these to make yourself deaf and it still to sound OK:)
I’ve moved my post here now from the Kenrick thread, daftee, so you don’t need any of the ‘Marco said’ bollox... ;)

Dare I say it? Dare I? Oh OK - thrice endowed turntable of the trouser region. For those "she needs more" than I can give moments, if only I had one of these. Much foreplay required to get it going, though, so there are disadvantages to everything...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXdHOeX6vss
Sound is OK (nothing special), but utterly dreary 'audiophile pap' music, and T/T way too fiddly and a PITA to set-up for my liking. Give me a nice simple little Techy, any day! :exactly:
Marco.
What? He said that was one of the world's finest recordings:D Well if so who knows what the bad ones are like.
Excusing my bad piss take, the Acapella I have heard in real life do have a great mid range but they fail to blend with the bass drivers. The plasma tweeters sound good too.
For horns with dynamic drivers I think Avantgarde's recent efforts do better with that inevitable problem.
The TT in the video I think does look cool apart from the apparent tonearm stupidity. The post was just visual really.
Rather nice sounding Celestion 66s, if I say so myself (particularly when he keeps still!):

Can't really find any great sounding vids, but this speaker really could sound very good indeed. Maybe better than 66's.
I remember hearing a room at Bristol once with an LP12/Ekos/Troika LK power amps and 'Bariks playing Tears For Fears and it was just glorious. You could tell from way outside the room...

15 seconds worth was all I could stand - nasty echoey sound! Linn Isobaraks were, IMO, some of the worse speakers I ever heard, and that YouTube clip hasn't caused me to change my opinion. Sorry!

No that does sound a bit bad amp room echoey shite I agree.
Trust me - no you won't I suspect, but they could sound excellent. Really. Excusing the Linn name if you can get past that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZCHrpRAntM
You have to listen past the first 15 seconds here Bazzer.
I heard the Isobaraks on two occasions. Once at KJ Leisuresound in Wigmore Street, London and the second time in Linn's demo room at an audio show at Swiss Cottage, London.
On both occasions they sounded awful - the soundstage was non existent and the image had no focus whatsoever, it just 'swam' about almost making me feel sea-sick! When I commented on the effect to the salesman in KJ, he simply replied "How do you know it's not supposed to sound like that?" (!) I made the same observation at the Linn demo, and walked out after a couple of minutes; leaving the sycophantic fawning Linn groupies to salivate over the speakers!
In Linn's defence I should add the Isobaraks were early versions - they may have improved matters with later versions. Also they were the DMS, not the active tri-amped PMS system, which may have well sounded a lot better.
No, I would much rather have your Apogee ribbons or my Quad electrostatic speakers thank you!

Better, much better. I lasted 5 minutes, simply because I tire easily of the smaltzy smooth jazz and torch singing that always seems to be used in these YouTube demonstrations.
What was the source used? Was it the lovely professional EMT CD player seen on the rack to the left of the speakers?
I'm no 'Barik aficionado but at that show they were in a very large room, had great bass extension, sounded warm, open, lively, engaging, spacious and really enjoyable, basically.
Maybe the high ceiling helped with the weird upward firing drive units, I am uncertain. But on that particular occasion, in that room, with that kit - well I remember how great I thought it was to this day.
Really good speakers can be made to sound dreadful. On that occasion they just sounded wonderful. To me at least.:);)

What spoils that is the bloody HORRIBLE big, plastic, flat-screen TV sat in the centre of the system. If ever there was a turn-off with a system, for me, *that* is it! Proper hi-fi systems and TVs should live in their own separate areas of the house :exactly:
That said, the sound is good, but the music simply awful....'Lounge muzak'... Why do so many 'audiophiles' listen to that safe, boring, totally unchallenging middle-of-the-road pap??
Marco.
That was my comment/question. There is jazz and there is that anodyne pap, the latter of which is usually played on those You Tube clips!
I know, and unfortunately so often the same is reflected at hi-fi shows....
All most demonstrators want to play is stuff that 'sounds good'!

Dunno. Lot of glass and hard surface in that room I wonder if it can hold it together on more complex material. I like that white driver on black look.
Re telly Marco - I have one in between my speakers (44 inches behind to be exact) for music Blurays and DVDs and also for the odd straight movie. No harm done some music Blurays are excellent TBH.

That'll be the day. No-one wants to be confronted with the sobering truth that their £25K speakers can't make a decent fist of Motorhead. Audiophile pap is so much more re-assuring. If it didn't exist they would have to invent it.

depends what you are trying to find in it...
I do not watch this to be able to compare the sound of the system, or to find how good it is..
I watch these just from pure curiosity what some people put together, how the whole system looks like, and I like to see new things...
If I find something what is interesting I usually do a deep online research, checking how much (if I can afford it) than I search a reviews(if I can afford it) and than I search dealers where I can go and listen/see in real
Thats my reasons watching these vids...no more no less

As others have said Its not easy to get a decent sound as camcorder mics are pretty crap and you really hear the room reverberations, my room is too small and sounds really boxy if I record anything

No the Kenrick Sound stuff is shot with a serious camera and mic. There's a video they have done that shows it. Plus you can see it in speaker reflections and easily hear it especially when the camera gets close to the speaker's.
And IMHO you can easily hear the room effects.
If you are not sure if you are being had, Shazam the track and then play it in TIDAL or equiv. If they sound very similar on a serious system or phones you are probably being duped.
Some Kenrick Sound gear.
Shot with a $3000 mic. You can easily see the camera stabilizer reflection on the Yammies.

A little more tolerable than the pish played in the Yammies video, though. However, why can't the folk who go to the trouble of posting videos of these truly great vintage systems, go to the trouble of demonstrating them playing some truly great music?
There are plenty of superb recordings of blues, classical and jazz music around (from that era or before, in terms of the kit shown in Andy's vids), which would properly showcase the quality of the equipment, instead of the kind of superficial pap you might hear inside a lift in a department store!!

I really like it TBH. And I don't really like Santana.
Playing back the above video through the system that recorded it shows a big quality drop over the original source. Seems to be a distinct right channel bias to it as well. No surprises there, really. Need a camera with betta mics:D

That is better. I sense a Santana Friday night coming on...:)
Lol - quality :eyebrows:
That other track was just way too 'wishy-washy' and lacked any sense of 'groove', which isn't something you'd normally associate with Santana! Anyway, here's another mind-blowing track, this time from Woodstock - a rock festival that I just wish I'd been old enough to have gone to!!

Turn the lights out, roll a fat one, and just immerse yourself in hypnotic wonderland! :smoking: :guitar: :guitar: :smoking: :hairmetal: :hairmetal:
Try *that* through yer Apogies!!

Interesting system, Justin.
How loud do you have the volume playing in that video?- 10 o'clock?

If you are a vinyl spinner then this you tube video will be of visual interest.

Some of the supposedly bad "brown acid" which was going around the festival at the time would be way more appropriate...:)
Apparently it was actually excellent - reputedly just really strong and very pure - unlike some of the shite that was adulterated and a lot weaker.
Unfortunately, it is all gone:(

It is probably around 80-85DB at a total guess.
That Santana Woodstock video was awesome BTW Marco. Mind you, most of that fest was. Must dig my DVD out.

Given the media and the early direct drive this one still demonstrates how good the RCA LC1 is

Nice... Now *that* is what you call a tonearm!! :eyebrows: None of the flimsy, low-mass pish that they produce nowadays... You need something suitably 'industrial'!
You might also like this, Andy - both the T/T (its broadcast heritage) and Pierre Clement cartridge have always intrigued me:

The $45,000 Triode Corp Ref M212. That is an 845 behind the 212s to give an idea of the size of the things. Looks like the Psvane 212 WE replica is being used - not seen it used anywhere else before. Amp doesn't appear to be listed on the Triode Corp website.
Very annoying video I find. The presenter and song see to that. Posted just because the amp is cool.

Do people who buy this level of equipment only listen to acoustic jazz? Because that is all you ever seem to hear played on it.
Always a source of incredulity (amusement actually) of those who persist in posting Their Gear's performance online.
As their Gear sounds sooo good through my crap Motherboards' inbuilt Sound Chip and through my handme down low res 'Altec Lansing ' desktop speakers.
What are those people thinking?

Sod all for the most part. Tis just some fun really.
Post yours and take a chill pill.
Alternatively read the thread the point has been made in detail already.
Haha, I couldn't agree more. Danilo, please lighten up and learn to have some fun, or if not, bypass this thread and concentrate on others!
Marco.
this is a good one: Altec 620 + MC7300, C38, D100

Your are Right, that does sound surprisingly Good.
Even through my crappy 'Altec Lansing' branded 2" Computer speakers ;)
Be V interesting to hear those live.. sans Utube software intrusions
Tis Superstar by the European Jazz Trio. Just been listening to some of their other stuff via TIDAL on the 2nd system and it is seriously well recorded.

Even via the laptop speakers the HiFi system is lacking. But ohhhhhhh boooooyyyyyyy what awful music :( imho of course.
Sadly I think most - certainly those I have listened to - videos of hifi systems insist on playing crap audiophile approved music.
Regards Neil
Ah, I've heard this recording played back at a dealers house in Perth, WA on his atc 100s. He had a stacked pair and turned it up to 11. Agreed not great musically speaking but my god, the dynamics were actually frightening!
