Always best to start with the cups! The first step to a happy life of coffee drinking.
My supervisor at work turns my guts when he breathes his coffee breath, i don't know anything so disgusting other than general Halitosis...
Oh I don’t know - takes quite a bit to beat a nicely ‘ripe' and fragrant armpit, in the height of the summer, inside a hot and sweaty office! Or the ’tang of Scampi Fries’, pervading the air, due to some manky mare’s unwashed knickers entering 'fermentation mode'! :eyebrows:

I bought a Gaggia grinder which actually grinds rather than smashes and so gives a much better espresso with a really good firm crema. I also found that Brazilian Santos Supreme makes the best espresso I have ever tried to make. Search out Imperial Teas in Lincoln, they do mail order and some really exquisite coffee's.
I found that the best crema is had by grinding really fine otherwise it is weak and disappears very quickly. On the Gaggia grinder setting No6 gives the best espresso.

Definitely grind rather than smash. I try for as coarse a grind as I think will still give a decent crema. The key is to get the dose right - I previously tried to stuff too much coffee in. The fact you tamp it down is not the same as cramming an excessive amount in. Filtered water, and a clean steam pump help. Clean the coffee maker out with water with citric acid dissolved in it, and keep the shower clean.
Yup - I'm a saddo coffee nerd :(

Thats why I layer mine with a rougher grade strong filter type coffee. It permits better flow and extraction and also stops fine espresso grinds interfering with the portafilter or the head.

I don't drink coffee!
(not since my BP went ballistic about fifteen years ago)
This is my favourite coffee http://www.pumphreys-coffee.co.uk/kalosi-toraja/ ground using one of these http://www.pumphreys-coffee.co.uk/krups-burr/ and made using one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bialetti-Brikka-Espresso-Maker-Cream/dp/B0001DJT7G/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1424908429&sr=1-1&keywords=Bialetti+brikka

At the mo I'm indulging in Coffe Viet...i.e. Vietnamese style....Condensed milk in a glass and S Blend Trung Nguyen from Dragon Coffee via a Phin. Look it up.....brings me back to the back streets of Hanoi......Times
Currently drinking Bolivian Colonia Illimani beans brewed in an Aeropress.
The beans are from Redroaster Coffee Company in Brighton. They ask you when you buy the coffee, what type of machine you are using, and they then grind to suit. They even publish the date that they roasted the beans (22nd February 2015 in this case) Great service!

Get yourself a hand grinder Graeme (Zassenhaus) from eBay and enjoy that just ground fresh taste all the time, perfect with an Aeropress ;)
Nice bean that too, I also prefer a South American Arabica . . . .happy days, I'm off to grind and press right now!
Buy coffee from here, crackin wee shop in Perth.

Cafetiere ground.
Interested in trying something different, how does using a grinder/ Aerospress compare to the Cafetiere for a good cuppa? :)

I was given a free coffee in London the other day for some The Economist promotion. Apparently they were using those beans which have been passed through the body of a monkey.. It must have been mis-information because it tasted like any other to me and not that great.
I also went into a coffee shop in East London recently who have a roastery attached, near Brick Lane. £8.50 for a bag of beans and proclaiming that they've been washed.. ? Is that unusual? What's it about? I err.... bought some! haha Why not.
Tell you what though, in just a french press, they have a lot more flavour and are a lot less bitter than the normal supermarket coffee I buy. Even was a different colour: the froth (not really crema) was a lot lighter in colour and the coffee more like a very dark brown rather than so black. Perhaps it was just roasted for slow brewing (as stated) rather than so many in the supermarket geared towards dark espresso. Not sure how often I want to pay that much but good for the occassional retail therapy.

What's wrong with a teaspoon? It's fast, simple, and far cheaper.
I was thinking of some of the coffee brews we used to knock up in the Amazon jungle. One of them involved boiling the coffee till the water had evaporated enough to turn the remains into a thicker and sticky substance. It gave you a weird sort of high.

Oh ok - looks interesting. Like the tinted brown 70s plastic vibe. Had forgotten about Firebox. Another coffee thing on there would be perfect for me on the go - a metal french press which is also a heat-retaining travel mug thing. Coffee from a flask starts tasting of the flask after a while.

My place of birth. That's one reason for the choice of names for my products. At night we could see the stars quite clearly if it wasn't raining. That's how I ended up using the name Capella as well.

I lurrveee coffee!! nothing fancy, but strong and thick!! No gizmo's just the middle east method :) Bring water and sugar mix to a boil on the cooker, add coffee grinds, allow to bubble and froth twice and pour!! job done. I get my coffee from Turkey or a mate in Amman who sends me some great gear ground with Cardammon Mmmmmmmmmmmm
