Hi Guys

With working mid-week now I have been making the most of my weekends and getting out and about with the Black Dog Faye.

Took a walk on the beach this morning which is only 2 minutes from home and headed to the Tees mouth where the Sea, Beach, Dunes and Steel Works merge. Hope I'm wrong but there is not too much hope of the Blast Furnace lasting very much longer, could be a matter of weeks.

Any way, a couple of photo's of the views, hope you can see that the Beach and Industry make a contrasting image of the area. sort of beauty and the Beast thing. Have more images and will add some more later.

Hi Andy,
Nice pics, again! - I particularly like the one of the flotsam on the beach - I'd have been tempted to take the branch home with me for the garden.
The blast furnaces remind me of my youth and childhood - I grew up in a village with two blast furnaces less than 100 yds (no metres in those days :) ) from the main road and a road lined with terraced houses at that. Where you see dunes I saw slag heaps, pig casting machines and slag reduction works, known as 'the tarmac' in those days.
Would you believe where then stood blast furnaces and waste tips (no environmental considerations to worry about then), now stands a housing estate with some of the most expensive housing in the distict on it, prices around £200K to £300K. I wouldn't live in one if they paid me - if only they new what was under their gardens!! I can only assume that they are all occupied by outsiders who have no knowledge of the site's history and legacy.
Look forward to seeing the other pics.:)
Cheers,

Hi Dave

Cheers for your comments.

I also fear that if the Redcar Steel Works close that at some point in time it will become a housing estate. High value or not. The residents won't realise what Lies Beneath.

I worked in the Steel Industry there at Lackenby for 25 years so know what waste and damage that has been done in the name of industry and progress.

Re-useing the Brown Field Land, is it progress or not??

Hi Dave,

I probably saw some of the very same sights as a kid! :)

I was born HERE (http://www.bbc.co.uk/southyorkshire/content/image_galleries/jessops_hospital_old_gallery.shtml) and lived HERE (http://www.rotherhamweb.co.uk/gallery/brinsworth/). ;)

Don't think I told you that, did I?

Hi Mike,
Small world ain't it !!
I remeber the old Jessops Hospital very well - my wife used to work in the Arts Tower for a while and I often used to take her into work and pick her up when my work commitments allowed, driving close by Jessops each way. My kids were both born in the new (not so new now) Nether Edge Maternity Unit.
With regards to Brinsworth, for a few years I used to work at Tinsley Wire and Hadfields steel works site (though not at the same time) and used to 'short cut' through Woodhouse, Handsworth and Brinsworth on the way to work rather than hack through the city centre so I recognise almost all of the Brinsworth pics - brought back lots of memories.
Cheers,
BTW my childhood was spent at Renishaw, if you know it.

Hi Andy

As before what lovely pictures. Industry and nature make interesting contrasts with each other.

View in the opposite direct to the Works and Beach. The hills in the very background Errington Woods are one of my other favourite walks with the dog.
These images are on the Greenary and Industry Thread.

Isn't that 2nd shot of Hartlepool Nuclear power station? Can't you be arrested and shot for taking photos of it, even if you do work there? In fact, won't we all be shot now we've seen the illegal photo of it?
:uhho: :guns:

Incidentally, I know all dogs have long tongues - but in that photo Faye's just looks plain unnatural!

You should meet our new dog, Ollie!

He has a tongue that reaches parts that other tongues fail to reach! :lolsign:

He's also the most mischievous little ****er you would never wish to meet! :mental:

Hi Andy,
If you're still with us and not yet shot  , please can you tell me why you keep referring to that lovely dog (used to have a black Lab as a kid) as ' Black Dog Faye', apart from the obvious reason that I worked out for myself ;) . Whenever I read the words 'Black Dog' it conjures up an image of a pirate in a three cornered hat atop a bandana'd head and wearing an eye patch, complete with sword in one hand and hook on the other. I have to stop, shake my head vigourously and then continue reading :lolsign: .
She deserves better !! :)

No comment, is what the man with the gun pointing to my head is telling me to say :lolsign:.

Still hear Dave, but only just.

Not sure where it came from but she just seems to get called 'Black Dog Faye' for no obvious reason.

Though I do like the idea with your pirate images. Do you reckon I can get a parrot to sit on her shooulder.
