Sorry to hear that. Where in too, simply because we've done Valentines out tons of times plus Valentines on a Saturday night, especially in London will be mad money, set menu's etc. Gonna have a nice steak meal in with a bottle of Rioja :)

We did an afternoon out and back for the evening.

A few drinks round the town in some of our old haunts, some things have changed beyond recognition, others haven't at all. I must pass through the city every other day but rarely stop to enjoy what it has to offer hence on days such as these we feel like tourists in our own town, which isn't a bad thing.

After a few refreshments we stopped by a cheap n cheerful Chinese cafe which we used to frequent when we both worked in the city. The food is always freshly prepared and it's quite low key which means it's excellent.

A few more jars and then home. She leaves for a business trip tomorrow so we'd be doing this anyway and not just because the greeting card companies say so.

Nice one Richard sounds good. A young colleague of mine moved back to Newcastle from London a few years ago with her husband, to be where her parents and family are, lovely girl still miss her now. She's in somewhere called Bedlington I believe. Just bought their first house, a really nice 4 bed in top order for £183K, I mean you cant get some one beds down here for that :rolleyes:.

Aye, Bedlington... further up the coast from us, about a 25 min drive from the city I'd say. Northumberland is beautiful but but has its rough parts too. Some of the old mining communities never recovered. However, unlike the south east, where I also lived for a while, a couple in reasonable jobs can still afford a decent home and some quality of life too.

Out. At a fabulous savoyard restaurant in couiza, the village below rennes le chateau. Wonderful food and atmosphere. Exterior like any warehouse down here, but the interior like an alpine chalet. We had a beautiful lamb dish but watched another couple eating a huge raclette and have decided we'll have to go back for one on Friday after skiing. It was Sue's 50th birthday Friday, so this was a valentines & birthday joint celebration
