A couple of days ago I won the bidding on a Pro-Ject Phono Box SE II which replaced my aging Musical Fidelity VLPS phono stage with VPSU power supply. The Pro-Ject absolutely smothers the VLPS into oblivion as one would expect but two years ago I was using a Heed Questar MM and the midrange and treble of the Pro-Ject are masses better than the Heed also. OK so the Heed had better bass definition but it also had an overly warm and tubby bass that I did not like. The Pro-Ject has a gorgeous midrange in comparison with no artificiality and it has a beautiful treble. The first album I tried it with was 'Endless River' and this was just so bloody good. Until I can afford a new Croft setup that I have promised myself, I shall happily stick with this.
All interconnects are Atlas Hyper and loudspeaker cables are NVA LS5.
