Lowther Question.

Today I was given a 'single' vintage Lowther driver from an acquaintance of mine.

The model is the 'P6M' with the square frame. The surround is rubber. (Not foam) The whole of the driver looks OK. But It could do with a clean/service.

Maybe I might possibly look for another square frame P6M later on in the year.

No idea if this P6M works or not?

Apart from Lowther in 'Kent'. Are there any other Lowther specialist, in the UK who happily services vintage Lowther drivers to a good standard?

I'd flog it Shane. You'd need a very big cabinet to get the 'best' out of it. I really don't like them myself.

If you look on eBay there's a guy in Surrey does. But he cant fix a broken electrical connection. A factory rebuild is the only viable option then. (the factory is now in Norfolk. The Bromley address is a virtual one, and the Bromley branch is a semi-detached house near Sidcup)

That may well be the case, but according to their website:

Not bad for an eighty(?) year old design :lol:

Actually, I think they are fascinating. My experience of them has been limited to a few days with a pair in very basic Acousta enclosures, which managed to do some things astonishingly well, other things rather poorly and some things not at all ... mostly due to a frequency graph like a cross-section of a series of Alpine valleys/peaks. They seem to be great fun, though, and people who use them will have nothing else ... and usually are into the DIY element and ultra-low power amps. What I do know is that they are unbelievably dynamic, very fragile, and take a gazillion hours to run-in.
