the big un is a 4mm Banana plug, the small one is also known as Wander plug.
no need to buy gold dust on the bay.

Aye +/- are of different diameter from each other, as Michael Mimoser says a 4mm Banana & 3mm Wander will do for the time being, for some mad reason the original plugs can fetch the earth..

Guys what is the best way of waking up a ST 30+ thats been sat for 20+ Years. Any thoughts or just leave it to a proper engineer really want to hear one but i'm not sure still.:scratch:

Wants a service anyway but just use an old pair of headphones switch it on..The phones socket to the right it has a dummy knob with plastic jack plug attached inserted in it.

If all the electrolytic capacitors are OK then this should be fine. If the electrolytic layer in any of them has re-dissolved (as it tends to) and doesn't re-form quickly enough then shortly after switch-on there will be one or more very loud bangs and clouds of smoke and the inside of your amp will be filled with what was previously the inside of the capacitor(s). Scraping the goo and removing the foil fragments off the circuitry can keep you busy for ages.

Not the end of the world cos the '30 Plus' has slot in cards like the Quad '33' dead easy to service..If you want the service manual Dan the man i can mail it you..

:( Nothing through the headphones using cheap cables as big cables are too large for the diameter of the inputs using tuner with a pioneer tuner nothing tried all inputs. Not gonna put speakers through it neither worth sending of to a specialist i want to but no power output its likely to be a big bill :( but would be a nice little thing if i can get it running.

That's reminded me of a very amusing memory of my time in a TV repair shop in my teens.
The proprietor was facing the open chassis of a TV on test (all valves of course then) when the main electrolytic 'let go'.

I was at an opposite bench, turned around to see his lab coat, face and hair plastered in aluminium foil, apart from the insides of the TV :rfl:

Yes had thought about that looked inside i couldn't see where they are located :doh: quite simple probably for a numpty but just found it under DC and that fuse has gone.:( but the spare one is good.

On the back in fuse Holders

There is provisions for spare 5x20 glass fuses on the back aswell {1.6A D.C & 1A A.C} If the D.C fuses blows you might be looking at an output Transistor failure..

This amp uses a Quasi comp output {2N3055 NPN's} If you have to replace the Outputs of Driver Transistors for this amp the quiescent Current wants re-setting at 30mA.

Id personally get all those Elco's replaced for starters..

Yes the 1.6A replacement fuse is fine..The leak powered up fine playing a CD through it and through the headphones it sounds OK no distortion the sound is good. Ive run it for about 20 mins i will send it off for a service. though i'm through the first process it powers up and it plays fine well to me for the moment anyway. Lovely little thing it is. :lol:.

Amplifier electronics is still a mystery to me although learning the basics through this very forum so all is good.

Bummer got them both working ST 70 right channel fine the other has distortion so off to be looked at then....maybe something simple
