Ok guys coming up with this a bit late a few years by all accounts:doh:

Anyway as having two young kids currently with xbox

Was thinking on getting one as a bundle ie load of games controllers etc so they can use it and so can i for cd playback, stand alone units can be had for a Tenner on ebay, possibly a punt, but if so would sooner go for a bundle with say 20 games etc for around £35-55.

But don't want to chuck cash away on a whim.

So is anyone using one of these that do not want to admit it or is it all about transports and dacs:rolleyes:

I bought a PS1 recently for my second system having been aware of their reputation for many years.

Not surprisingly I couldn't resist trying it in my main system where I normally use a Teac VRDS10 with a DIY Paradise Monica 2 DAC. The results were pretty amazing and staggering when you consider the current price difference.

I'm tempted to buy another as a spare.

I went through a phase where I modded 3 of them (see the massive thread on Diyaudio!) The best mod you can do is to increase the output (assuming you have the 1002 - European version with the audio outs) by reducing 2 resistors on the underside of the circuit board. Not for the faint hearted as any pics you see on line are normally enlarged. The most popular mod is to take the audio out direct from the DAC chip. It is worth doing, although the stock machine ain't bad for a £tenner a pop.

Thanks for both replies.

Looked on the net and i did not wAnt to make references to other sites, not sure of site rules

My quick research led to believe the unit should have power/open controls, not standby/eject symbols.

And underneath model schp1002.

But trying to track these down with a few games at the right price is elusive, only early days missed playing gran turismo still a big kid
