View Full Version : Damaged Albarry PP1 advice?

I recently sold my PP1 (wish I hadn't now . . .), anyway this was damaged in transit, despite being packed well - still not sure how it happened? Anyway, firstly (silly question I know) has anyone got a front panel kicking around or know where I might get one? I have spoken to Neil at Albarry and he does not have any spares anymore, but can repair the amplifier if it's damaged but doubts it would be if all intact. They are very solidly built and my seller tells me its just the front perspex panel which is damaged.

Any suggestions appreciated and if you have a front panel, I'll take it! ;)

Hmm, that looks suspiciously like overtightened countersunk screw damage.

+1 That definitely looks like someone overtightened the screws! Not your typical in-transit damage at all.

Thanks for the replies guys, sorry about not replying sooner but I had a family bereavement last week, so my normal routine is a little upside down. I have to say it did initially cross my mind about the case screws being overtightened, but I have to trust the buyer who seems a really decent sort and I have no reason to doubt him. I'm still baffled how it got damaged though, UPS must have dropped it, or dropped something on it - I'm going to be quite a bit out of pocket as a result, despite it being insured with UPS :scratch:

It's going to be coming back to me and I think I'll get a new fascia as suggested by Bernie (thanks), before using it in a second system. Just before I sent it off I fired it up to check it over and wished I hadn't sold it as it sounds so good, so maybe I should have kept it in the first place!

Just ask Neil who they used for the facia's

I have spoken to Neil, André and he cannot get these sourced anymore, he is asking around to see if he can find me a used one, but he thinks it will be hard to find one. So it will have to be a replacement - TBH I will be happy with a plain black one.

I could laser cut a new panel - I think I've got some of that transparent red acrylic too. I could laser etch the writing on but it wouldn't be gold I'm afraid.

It looks to me like the front has had a bash and that has caused the panel to bend and fracture at the mounting points - is the volume control attached to the front panel by any chance?

If you did want me to do a front panel you would have to send me the broken one though as I would have to take a bunch of accurate measurements from it.

That's a great offer Mark, thanks so much. I don't have the amp at the moment, it's still with the buyer who plans to return it to me for a refund. When I get it back I can send you the front panel as a template for a replacement. The volume and control knobs all sit proud of the panel on connector rods and a standard volume pot fitting, so there should just be holes in the panel. He's an old picture taken from above;

When I get it back I'll be in touch if that's OK Mark and thanks again.

Ah yes, I see - shouldn't be too complicated. You can see why it broke though as its unsupported except at the fixing points.

Send me a PM when you are ready and I'll send you my address - should have it done in a few days if it's 3mm acrylic - will have to order the acrylic in if it's 5mm. Send me all the bits, even the broken bits.

Will do, thanks Mark. I'm away from home at the moment and get back Sunday, so I'll be in a position to arrange the amps return to me and then remove the faceplate.

Oh, could do it in black or smoked grey if you prefer?
