Can I extend a warm hello to all memebrs of this great forum. My interest in classic TDA1541A-based CD players and my growing addiction to tape decks has led me to join up to get my fix here. I'm very much looking forward to talking this and much more. Thanks for having me!

Hi T-D, and welcome to AoS.
I used to be a cassette man, but when I changed my car in 1997 the new car came without a cassette player. And that was the start of my venture into digital music.

I am not a believer in the classic TDA1541 myself. I prefer the later ones as used in the Philips CD960. You should listen to a CD960 if the chance arises.

Whats your first name? and can you add that + a basic location too please.

What kind of system do you have? What kind of music do you like? and would you like to put some photos of your gear in to the gallery...we all love to look at photos of nice kit and I suspect you have some.

Well what does Stan know ;) (quite a lot actually), but I am with you on TDA1541 players I have quite a collection of them Marantz cd94 mk2, Marantz CD7 and AMR CD77 and I love the sound from these particular implementations of that technology. Marco like TDA1541 too in the guise of his Audiocom modded Sony DAS1.

Tape decks, don't get us started, Nick's the big tape guy here and I have recently got sucked down the Reel To Reel road (I already have a Nak CR5e, for cassettes).

Anyway welcome again have fun and get stuck in. Any problems or you need help just ask.

The MK2 has the TDA1541A-S1. That's not the classic TDA1541, but a far superior chip and of far larger size as well.

Don't listen to Mr Sensimilia, he ain't heard my Audiocom-modified Sony DAS-R1, so he knows nuffin' about what the ultimate TDA1541-based DACs sound like when expertly implemented and upgraded with the best modern components... :eyebrows:

I believe that Neil's AMR is none too shabby, too (understatement)!

Besides, Stan's biased. He wants to sell you a funny wee box with 'Beresford' written on it, made from coconuts, Red Stripe and de finest ganja ;)

You see, my name is David and I've established a bit of a TDA1541(A) thing over the past few years - picking up a Marantz CD12, Meridian 207mk2, Cambridge Audio CD2 + CDM3/DAC3. I really do want to rationalise this all, but as I'm keen to do a bit of modifying (but yet to pick up the courage) and see what I can achieve before I do this.

I also have a developing interest in tape decks and recently got a Nakamichi DR1 to try out against my trusty Yamaha KX580. I've actually yet to hook the Nak up, so I expect that I'll contribute to the excellent tape discussions when I feel up to it.

My mucical interests are diverse, from large scale choral works, blues and Jazz, a bit of Disco and 80s-tastic to 70's rock.

Looking forward to sharing many discussions,

I must say I would love a Marantz CD12....when I was first in the audio trade back in 1989 the shop I worked in we sold a few CD12's unfortunately the units that came in were never removed from their boxes so I never got to hear one. I used to console myself with the opinion of many that the Marantz CD94mk2 was as good if not a bit better, but I have always had a doubt about that. I know what you mean about the to mod or not to mod decision. If you do the AudioCom would be the company to talk to as Marco can vouch for them and their work on classic digital products. Marco's Sony DAS-1 Dac is Audiocom breathed on.

Thanks for the tips re mods; the CD12 is a thing of beauty and I will probably keep it unmodified and use it as a benchmark to my other 'projects'. The CD94II is one player I've yet to hear. I would love to find one, but they are rarely available, for good reason I'm sure!

Anyhow, in answer to a few earlier comments, I'm originally from Belfast, but currently based in Cork. My user name was supposed to suggest my location and Irish traditional, or 'tweedly-dee' music. I can assure all I don't have a brother called Tweedle-Dum!
