Not heard those particular ones Grant, but I have heard similar. Not sure which ones, but they looked much the same. It was when I'd sold my 845 SE amp to a chap that lived in Castle Douglas. I'm talking floorstanders, but the top half looked the same. Sounded very impressive with the valves, but very forward and deeeeetailed. Not sure if it was something I could live with long term.,

Cheers Ali. yes I think they do a floor version. The hishs kind of worried me as felt they may be just too forward for me. any options that come to mind that wont break the bank? 90+ efficiency

Difficult in a bookshelf, unless you go DIY...

My speaker building skills are not likely to be up to scratch Ali these days. might just have to admit defeat and move on the amptastic.

Nah nah, sure there will be something out there. What's the budget?

struth

Gotta be something out there for that. How about vintage?

struth

I don't have a lot of experience with vintage stuff, and a lot of it is usually in need of work. Not agin it in principle though. The Q's Im using are great with the valve amp but struggle with the mini1. Brian was interested in it so I may just cut my losses. pity as it sounded great with Gary's efficient speaks. It would work well I think with my KEFs but they are too big for what i fancied for upstairs.
Needs must as the devil is around with his spikey thing :eyebrows:

Yep, that's the rub. Bookshelfs of the required sensitivity and an easy load are not an easy thing..

If my back problem eases I am going to re bias the yaqin and get it ready for action again I think. It sommat nice pops up in meantime then fine, otherwise I will just go back to valve power. I actually would like to get it set up n the lounge. I reckon with the kefs it would be along with the little copper pre quite a hard thing to beat.

Let me know, I'll come across and sort it for you?

Cheers Ali. It is darned heavy. Its in the shed at moment awaiting a quick check and adjust as its not been done for an age. If I fit my TT shelf in lounge then all will fit around it as the yaqin would need to go at the top re heat. Going to take down the sound projector as dont use it anyways now. Kinda surprised no one has bit my hand off for it as it was a grand new.

Well PM me if you want a hand with it, I'll come over Sunday. Can't do tomorrow, I'll be too hung over!

Grant, when I was in a few weeks ago, Graham at Retro Reproduction in Edinburgh had a pair of Snell Ks that were in lovely condition. No grills though. I think he was looking for around £300 for them. Might be worth a call to see if he still has them.

I will look into it Paul thanks.. Geoff may have a set of interest coming in the future as well. Not made any hard and fast decisions yet. need to move some speaks first I think.

Tannoy System 600s are small and really superb, they take some beating. I've had a couple of pairs and I can't think of a better speaker of the size. The bigger System 800 is even better (but dearer and rarer). Both are serious nearfield monitors and were sold as such. Imaging and depth is their strong point and they have good neutrality. Surprising dynamics and high sensitivity too.

think they're both duals are they not Geoff?

funny but I finally biased the yaqin today out in shed and had it connected to my Tannoy e11's.. have to say they sounded fabulous with it, considering the size of the room and the speaker size and age. these things always impress me

They are and have that elusive DC imaging that only Tannoy truly seem to master.
