I've had AOL internet for years but lately it has been totally rubbish. Regularly dropping out, buffering, not connecting you name it. I've called them on numerous occasions, usual router checks and checks their side no improvement. Last time they said all is good at their end and to ask my phone line provider (BT) to check the line. Did that and BT confirm all good with the line. My pc is quite new and very good spec. Checking on line it seems AOL internet is regarded as the worse with a lot of disgruntled customers. Anyone else having problems, or changed service provider for the better ? I've almost had enough as has my wife and daughter :steam:

I signed up to Co-oP about six months ago and it's been perfect. The people are very helpful and you can actually speak to somebody in this country promptly. It's also cheap!

I don't know who they buy their service through, but it is good.

That’s very interesting Rob (but sad to hear of the inconvenience you’re experiencing), as I’ve been with AOL now for about 15 years, and apart from a dodgy time about 8 years ago, where I kept getting cut off, I’ve had next to no problems, and certainly nothing major.

Therefore, I’ve stuck with AOL, largely because I’m a creature of habit, the service they provide is good enough for my needs, and also because I like the ‘user-friendly’ and simple to use interface it provides, for folks like me who aren't particularly computer-savvy.

Hope you resolve your issues soon, or if not, find an ISP that better serves your needs

Marco.

Thanks Marco, Like you I'm a creature of habit, like the interface and most everything else about AOL but of late, particularly the last few months it's been really really bad here where I am in South East London. I reckon there are works they're doing in the area but as with these things they only tell you what they want to. ATB - Rob ;)

Yikes I thought AoL had gone the way of the Dodo along with Netscape Navigator ( I really used to like NN back in the day ) - guess I'm now just such an Apple fan boy that I stick with Safari (or Chrome)

We had AOL for many years and we were very happy with them, they were cheap and it was a real good reliable supply, but having left them (now on 152 meg Virgin :yay:), I would never ever go back to them (ever :)).

Basically, a date was set for the switchover, can't remember the exact details but it was about 10 days away, AOL simply cut supply pretty much straight away, leaving us (whole family) without internet for around a week. They led me a merry dance when I rang to ask why we had no supply, they blamed Virgin and BT (phone line rental) saying they had requested this (yes, I was naïve in believing this). Long story short, absolutely no chance of reinstating supply and suffered purely because they had thrown the teddy out for wanting to leave.

I'd be very careful if you are going to leave them, as they treat you like sh*t when you do.

I’ve got a brand new MacBook Pro, and I *still* use AOL (for Macs), not only as my preferred browser (despite having access to just about every other one available), but also my preferred ISP! ;)

Mmm… Not good, Phil, but I suspect that the others would be no angels either in a similar situation.

been with aol since about 1999, apart from a couple of occasions where the internet was dropping in and out, (both times it seems i was having my speed upgraded without me asking), ive had no issues with them.

Well you live and learn [emoji12]
TBH I'd forgotten that ISP's various have their own portals - probably because my (low speed) line is Orange and their portal is utter sh**t and my (high speed) connection is a Tooway satellite and they don't have a portal [emoji1]
Once upon a time I made my own portal / home page with the links I used most but Safari, Google and Firefox all have good "home pages" now with customisable most visited icons. In browser speed tests (on Yosemite) Safari is fastest but I guess like HiFi ( and most things in life) it's whatever floats your boat and there is no "best"

Sadly I think you are both correct and I doubt you'd get round it, good luck Robbie.

Quick up date and to be fair. Finally got to the route (pardon the pun as you'll see) of the problem after many calls and elimination. A brand new and more up to date router was given free of charge with v straight forward instructions. Internet connection is solid at full strength and has not dropped out once since install. My fairly new computer is once again fast and efficient like new. So and to conclude - AOL not crap, old and failing router is / was ! ;)

I went back to using Comodo Dragon nearly six months ago and it's been faultless.

Did not even know they were still going.

They will use BT's lines so maybe its BT's fault?
