I have just bought a pair of these. I bought a pair in the early '90s for my son, but the drivers were rather knackered .
A local Hi Fi Shop supplied two drivers, with 'wizzer' cones, to replace the AR drivers.
( I seem to recall the 'whizzers' were later removed )

Yes, you've guessed . I didn't know too much about replacement drive units in those days.
They sounded OK, but were sold on.
( Somewhere in the loft I still have one AR chassis )

It will be interesting to have another pair. They don't have the original AR drivers, but two approved replacements.
I am looking forward to picking them up.

The AR7s are featured in the Vintage Review of HiFi News February Edition if you are interested.

I have not heard them but AR18BX speakers were used in my first seperates system circa 1986. They were paired with a cheap Technics Amp from Richer Sounds and a Philips CD150 Player. The speakers lasted a lot longer through various upgrades than either the CD or Amp !

I have always had a soft spot for the original AR speakers.
Edgar Villchur knew what he was doing.
By the way, I also have an original AR XA turntable.
It only cost me £25, plus a new mat.
I sometimes wonder if my Linn LP 12 is that much better...

These ARs must be easy ones, as they have wood veneer not vinyl wrap. Also, they have no plate to the RH side of the tweeters.
Someone has offered me a pair of AR drivers which require some work, so I will be getting on with that.

Now finished and they sound superb.
As I have too many speakers they are up for sale...

These AR7s have really sparked interest on eBay, no doubt fuelled by the 'Classic Review' in a recent Hi-Fi News magazine.
