I have for sale here a Sony VAIO VGN-FW31E laptop. Been using it as a stopgap & its performed flawlessly but now time to move on. In full working order, specifications are:
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.00GHz Processor
3GB DDR2 Ram
400GB HDD
ATI Radeon HD3470 Graphics card
Realtek HD Audio Sound with Dolby Surround.
DVD Re-writable drive
16.4" 1600x900 HD Screen
5Ghz Wireless
1080P HDMI output
Magnesium top cover
Its had a relatively recent fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit & has both Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2013 & Adobe Photoshop CS6 installed. Comes with original battery & charger, the battery lasts 30-50 minutes depending on how the laptop is being used. 2 cosmetic issues of note: the screen contains one single "dead" pixel & the palmrest is showing signs of use with the silver colour having worn... Neither of these affect usage or usability.

How many times do I have to tell folk that the classifieds section is NOT to be used for selling computers (no, on their own they don’t come under the banner of proper hi-fi equipment), mobile phones, cameras or anything else that isn’t proper hi-fi equipment??? :doh:
Please read the rules in future (i.e what’s written under the Private Exhibitions section title):
Advertise equipment, music and accessories for sale. Private ads, and strictly HI-FI RELATED items only.
Honestly, if folk are too bloody lazy to read them, and just advertise what the hell they want, then I may have to introduce a penalising system, whereby anyone caught selling non-permissable items is banned for a week…
Perhaps that might help focus their attention!! ;)

No, James, not at all - just fed up moving threads from folks being posted in completely inappropriate areas of the forum. I presume that people can read?
I’m not singling you out for special attention, but you’re about the sixth person in the last couple of weeks who’s used the classifieds section for selling non-hifi related goods, when the rules are quite clear. Therefore, I trust you can appreciate how frustrating that is...
What made you think that advertising computers there was allowed? At one time people used to have the courtesy to PM me and ask for permission to sell non-hifi related gear in the off-topic section of the forum, now they just do what they want, regardless :rolleyes:
Anyway, as these instances are starting to escalate, I’ll be posting a thread on the matter, outlining the rules and what’s liable to happen in future when they’re not adhered to. I simply won’t have AoS used for folk to selfishly abuse our facilities and sell whatever it is they want (outside of what is allowed) free of charge :nono:

I've advertised & sold non hifi items there without issue in the past so had absolutely no idea it was against the rules. FWIW I have now read the classifieds rules & its states "Please only advertise hi-fi and related paraphernalia; i.e. consumer electronics." correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a laptop "consumer electronics" ?
I'm not trying to be funny with you Marco but it seems the rules you are threatening temp bans for if broken aren't written anywhere.

They will be shortly - like I said I’ll be posting a thread about it. A week’s ban would only occur in the most extreme of circumstances, but people have to realise that AoS isn’t simply here to satisfy their own selfish needs; there is an acceptable standard of behaviour required, and also rules which must be observed.
At the end of the day, when it comes to posting ads, it’s simply a matter of being courteous and to remember that it’s a privilege, not a right :)

No, the rules will be that anyone seeking to advertise non-hifi related goods must ask for permission first. I simply don’t want the forum (any part of it) being clogged up with rubbish. Non-hifi related items will be offered for sale here as an exception (a favour, for those who ask nicely), not a rule.

"Selfish needs" ? If the member/s in question only ever posts in the classifieds I would agree but dont shit on contributing members. I give far more than I take here on AOS... I've spent hundreds of hours of my own time repairing & modifying equipment for members on here & very rarely charge anything... Not any more.

Well, I apologise if I was curt with you, James, but after having scanned the PE section and seen another bloody laptop for sale (the other day it was cameras - goodness knows what those have got to do with hi-fi), I’d had enough, so you were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Try to look at it from my point of view, where you’ve taken much time and effort to outline what should be crystal clear (as I highlighted earlier in blue bold text), and then folk either ignore it or are too lazy to read it. It doesn’t just happen when advertising stuff for sale, but when posting different threads about hi-fi. Every day I have to move at least half a dozen threads that have been posted in the wrong area of the forum, sometimes ridiculously so, such as today when I had to move a thread about turntables from the music section, FFS! :doh:
It does get rather wearing after a while when folk continually fail to notice what should be obvious, and don’t act as instructed.
I don’t always read the classifieds section, so I must’ve missed the three other occasions where you’ve advertised laptops (why are you going through so many?) Anyway, let’s not fall out about it. We’re going to review the situation about laptops and phones being advertised in the classifieds section and post a notice up about it, once the ins and outs of the matter have been debated and agreed by all the mods and myself :)

That is why you employ a moderator team...
I get the 'it would be nice if people asked' thing, it's only polite after all, however there needs to be a certain amount of flexibility I reckon. Computers are part and parcel of most audio systems these days so to ban them from sale on AoS seems a bit silly to me. Most of our members are sensible, polite and not prone to taking liberties and so I can completely understand why most would assume it is perfectly okay to sell one on here. Then there's another aspect, without computers there would be no AoS...

Perhaps the answer is to create a dedicated computer audio section (rather than the 'catch all' digital section which currently exists) where members can discuss and perhaps sell computer equipment. Obviously there should to be rules & regs governing this, however it would be almost impossible to police the purpose of any sale, including those in the existing classifieds section. For all you know that Radford which sold recently may be destined to fall from a great height onto someone's bonce... :lol:
