View Full Version : Could this be my best upgrade of 2015?
My latest "HiFi" related purchase arrived yesterday.
It could possibly be the best thing I have bought recently, as it now brings out the best in my system.
It's the latest version of the Okki Nokki RCM, imaginatively called the Okki Nokki II.
The new model has a few of the previous niggles sorted, and seems to work really well.
I am impressed with the difference it makes to vinyl replay, and now wish I would have bought one earlier.

Well done. Clean vinyl, clean sound, clean stylus. Would not be without a RCM. :)

Yes so true. Seriously, anyone using vinyl as a source a RCM is a MUST.
I totally agree.
I was using a cleaning fluid and micro-fibre cloth before, but the RCM takes the cleaning to another level.
I cleaned up an old second hand LP last night that I had only dared to play on my AT95SE and it came out looking like new.
Really quiet on playback.
huge improvement. $$ its the best you can do. Effort wise: still not too bad.

factory built moth as well. think it was,although expensive a great buy as they are it seems getting more expensive. only fault is it is a noisy bugger.
If an Okki Nokki is a quiet machine, I hate to imagine what a Moth is like.

I don't understand why people complain about the noise. It's not like you have the RCM switched on whilst you are listening to music anymore than you would have a vacuum cleaner or a coffee grinder on.
not a complaint Martin just a side affect although sure they could have made it a bit quieter. the wife banished it to the shed as its a lot louder than the hoover. it sure can suck though. love when the vaccum comes on and the record gets dragged down.

It seems to be the main objection to owning one from people who don't own one ;)
I agree aside from getting rid of surface noise and clicks and pops the cleaning does seem to improve the top end resolution (aka 'sparkle') on otherwise good condition records. First thing I noticed when I got mine.

I have a factory built Moth and yes it is noisy! Buy some ear defenders. My LPs are quiet though, except for the music.

The JJ Cale was filthy when acquired and unplayable. After several runs on the RCM it now plays with a quiet background. Vinyl based you need a RCM, not only on secondhand vinyl but to clean new vinyl as well.

You said yours was the MK11 version with the gremlins ironed out ?
Whats different ?
It has an aluminium record clamp and a safety cut off when the tank fluid level gets high.
It also has a "wrap over" cover on the platter. Apart from that, it looks the same.

Looks the same as the MK1 , I assume the item right hand rear is the clamp
Looks better in black , I had a whit one
I moved to a Moth to avoid the full width platter , keeping it clean was a problem , leading to problems when you turn the record over the side you have just cleaned sits on the platter and collected any debris

It looks identical externally, but the fluid level sensor was the plus point. It was also much cheaper for me to buy than a Moth. The £/€ ratio is not good at the moment, so when you are paid in €'s to buy anything from the UK is expensive.
Why didn't you just clean the platter using the machine? ;)
