View Full Version : WTB heavier counterweight or extra counterweight for Technics SL1200/10 original arm
Hello,
i'd like to buy an heavier counterweight or an extra counterweight (heavier than the original) for the original arm of my Technics SL1210.
Thank you.
Eugenio
If you can't get one locally Eugenio try this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TECHNICS-SFPWG17202-1-SUB-AUX-WEIGHT-SL1200-SL1210-Mk2-Mk3-Mk5-M3D-M5-GENUINE-/261704272426?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiF i_Turntables&hash=item3ceeca4a2a
Hello, I have a custom 3x piece brass counterweight built by an old metalworker forum member called Thrunobulax (John).
Photo here with 2x pieces fitted: http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i405/neil_yeomans/counterweight_zpsd4ee87fb.jpg
£35 + P&P if you'd like it.
Thanks,
Neil
@Ron: thank you very much, but I already have the original one but it is not enough to balance my cart + headshell
@Neil: really a beautiful conterweight, but if it is possible I'd like to buy something cheaper
What headshell and cartridge are you using that is so heavy Eugenio? How about a large washer between the arm stub and add on weight?
I've got a graphite headshell + graphite stabiliser/spacer + a Denon DL 103 SA, that are quite heavy together.
Now the weight has been balanced with an horrible DIY solution, but I would use something more aesthetically acceptable :)

Just use the auxilliary counterweight orginally supplied with the deck - now available on e-bay, etc?

If Eugenio does not want is, can I register interest (depending on what the weights of the separate pieces are?).
Your inbox is full Neil.
All three pieces are "bloody heavy". enough to take any cart, any headshell even if you use brass or aluminium mounting plates on the cart like I used to. Not on the pic is another smaller weight so extremely adjustable.
Will clear my PMs.
Hi Kevin,
if there will be no cheaper solution, until the end of tomorrow, I'd like to buy the Neil's counterweight.
Of course if it is ok for you and Neil

Think you'd be hard pushed to find anything cheaper!! :) :)

It's your thread, so let me know by Saturday please.
Kevin, I'll weigh the bits for you and let you know in any case.
Don't waste £35. Just go to your local supplies and get a screw and some metal washers. Don't listen to anyone saying the more expensive custom made weight will result in a better sound. The only thing that makes a real difference here is the cosmetic.

No problem with me. As Neil says, it's your thread and it was offered to you first.

There are some other things that make a difference. Having a totally flexible solution (three separate counterweights) that can take anything from light MMs to heavy plated MC stuff (I used to use nude DL103 with brass plate), ease of adjustment, yes indeed it looks better. Hardly a waste of money. It also DOES sound better with the heavyweight combos.
@Neil: there is a pm for you, I'd like to buy your counterweight
Does anybody else have one of these they no longer use?
I am after the three piece version, as offered earlier on this thread.
