Anyone taken one to bits? Wondering how the faceplate attaches to the magnet. Looks to be three holes below the label at the back. Also a glue line between magnet and back of faceplate

Bought a couple of faulty ones thinking I might be able to repair them.

Packing was abysmal. Put in a Jiffy bag, which then opened. Just as well they didn't work.

I hate it when idiots won't pack obviously frail items sensibly. I've had a few myself. There are some stupid people about.

Ferreting about I've found the voicecoil is stuck to the faceplate with double-sided sticky tape. Removing it will probably result in damage.

Well, I've managed to remove one dome assembly without damage by facing the unit face down on the radiator to heat up and using a scalpel type knife to remove it.

Scraped the lead-out wires hoping there might have been a break, but, my luck being what it is, found the break was on the coil somewhere. Bugger. Going to try Falcon to see if just the dome section can be purchased.

Well Falcon don't offer a repair kit for the T27, and don't intend to as they feel the level of back-up service needed would be to great. At some point in the future though, they might offer an in-house repair service for it.

No doubt there is a killing to be made repairing T27's Stephen... If only they would do it with HF2000's :eek:

It is most often unfortunately the coil which fails in these things, usually due to overload, particularly if used in a system with a significant graphic equaliser, which has been set to grossly emhance upper treble frequencies. Once a coil does fail unless the fusing happens to be near the end or beginning of the winding it is a right-off I am afraid.

You can buy replacement voice coils from China etc... I've done it once on a pair of Mission 751 it was quite fiddly but worked very well - They actually sounded better than I'd ever heard them afterwards.

Didn't know that James. Fancied having a go at winding a pair. Don't have a micrometer to find out what gauge the wire is though. I think it has an impedance of 6. something.

They usually have hundreds of different diaphragms & voice coils but the shop is strangely empty :scratch: could be worth messaging them ?

Found it has a diameter of 20mm, nominal resistance of 6.25 R and an inductance of 50uH.
