Slant Risers For The Heresy's

Got a new project ...

I, well Colin actually, is going to make some new slanted risers for the Klipsch

My current lash-up is some flat risers with a couple of rubber door wedges under the front, to rise them up, but this is definitely not ideal :eek:

So we are going to make some proper slanted risers for them which is how they should be for floor placement..

There is a company in the US that makes the MKII risers but they are $81 delivered to the UK so I am sure we can make them for just a few £'s worth of wood, wood glue etc..

I've already got the measurements for them so we just need to buy the wood and get on with them.. and I'm sure the Heresy's will love them..:D

When I had Heresy II I messed around a bit with the riser concept.

IME the speakers do like to be loaded by at least 2 walls to get the bass up to a reasonable level, so you want them on the floor (or tight into both room corners), but they need to be pointed upwards for treble level not to drop off-axis unless you sit on the floor crouched down as well.

Risers of some type are necessary to get anything like a decent sound, imo, but I don't see where anything 'fancy' would make any difference - it's just an angle thing? :scratch:

Fancy risers should make 'em look nice though. :thumbsup:

Mine were always on to carpet, though, which I am sure was not ideal at all and may go a fair way to explaining why I didn't get on with the speakers? Have you experimented with that sort of thing, Bev?

I have found the Heresy to sound quite good when it is set up ona stand that puts the mid horn at ear level. Depending on room, placement and such, there really isn't any loss of bass by pulling it up higher off the floor. Mileage may vary of course....

Yes mine are pretty much in the room corners to help with the bass, even though I now have a sub but I don't always use it

I leave Colin for just a little while and he's already made the slant risers :D and they look superb being made out of 18mm ply they are nice and strong. They just need a little Walnut stain on them to match the speakers and they will be perfect, he's going to add some internal corner strengtheners to them and I'll just wait for the glue to set properly before trying them out

I will put a strip of neoprene around the perimeter of the new risers for the speakers to sit on, which is what I'm doing with the current flat risers

Sorry you didn't get on with the speakers Jerry, I know they are not to everyones taste, but I love them and this is the second pair I've owned

The risers are all finished now, just need to give them the Walnut stain I got today and let it dry and then test them out.. they should be good... I'm sure it will sound better than how I have the Heresy's at the moment, which are sort of suspended in mid air due to the rubber door wedges ! not ideal :D

Here are the risers all stained and ready to go...They are not a perfect match to the speakers but close enough. Now I just need to muster up the strength to place the speakers on them... ;)

I don't think veneering is really necessary as once they are under the speakers, in darkish corners of the room, I don't think they will be seen too bad...

No they aren't the prettiest things but I am sure they will do the job... If I ever feel they don't look quite right then I might look into veneering them, not that I've had any experience of that though ;)

Well the speakers are now on their new risers...

First thing I notice is that everything sounds a little bit tighter.. if that makes any sense... the bass is also improved I do believe.. ;)

Well I can certainly say that these new slant risers have improved my Heresy's.. They sound quite different now. The sound is being better projected into the room, if that makes sense. As I had the speakers kind of in mid air before it's probably no wonder the sound is better now really

The bass is also much better now.. as some may know I also have a sub but I don't always use it. And the sound is much tighter now.. if that makes any sense...

All in all a cheap upgrade to my speakers.. well worth it... :D
