Best Amplifier to Run IAS Ashurst Speakers

Hi Lads

Tricky one this they a nominal of 8 Ohms but need a good current of power to make them sound good. I Have the following.

Musical Fidelity E100 - Currently Using sounding good.
Denon PMA 350SE
Yamaha CR-600
Nytech CTA 252 XDII
Nytech CTA 252 XDII MK2
Yamaha CR-820

Any Thoughts

Its difficult to comment Dan, I for one have never heard any IAS speakers... Can only suggest trying each and seeing which you prefer.

I have heard from Stewart Wen and says that 70-WPC into 8 ohms should be plenty and i shouldn't need all that power.
Their good i like them very much just experimenting at the mo with Tannoys , Audio Note , Missions , IAS :).

Their size though can't help thinking they need a bigger more open room though not noticing any problems all sounds good really tight bass and the sweet spot is the treble in these :)

Sent that other Yamaha back dude though the sellers still selling it a fully working :rolleyes:.

The main driver in the IAS looks like a later Richard Allan 8" fabric surround unit, which should not need huge amounts of power to drive it. I reckon amps with 30 to 80 watts and anywhere inbetween should be fine.

Your correct its a CB8 Richard Allan Units they sound superb :) Thanks for the advice so most of my amplifiers are suitable then :).

I was wondering if anyone could help me out.
I bought a pair of Ashurst speakers just a couple days ago off gumtree. Unfortunately the tweeters don't work. The previous owner told me they're fine when he used them for the last time a couple years ago (ias speakers + radford sta25 amp + michell tt). They're stored in a dry conditions. The weird thing is that the both of them are not working. Also the tweeters are a different than on your picture (Dantheman91). There's no brand/model indication on them and they suppose to be a piezo drivers (photos here (https://plus.google.com/105952430106741550224/posts/ZhVL4Uy1B4T)).
Any ideas what can be wrong with them or what replacement units would you suggest instead?

Both not working? Both blown at the same time or before then at different times. Maybe your previous owner fired them up and thought "yes they work" or has seriously diminished hearing at high frequencies.

I'm not a fan of MF the company, so cannot bring myself to recommend much of their stuff, although the old XA200 mono's were huge fun :)

Jerry (Jandl100) had a modern Crown XLS1500 (under £400 new I think) and rated very highly, its drive and sheer verve (as described by him) would be perfect for the old IAS models I knew, keeping the bass under very firm control, yet open and fairly delicate in best domestic Hifi fashion I think. In a similar vein, MC2 did some good amps with linear supplies (I have no idea how the more recent models compare). The company is apparently a bit non-plused about the fickle domestic market, but the few who've used these amps in a domestic situation have nothing but praise. Going back even further, the old Crown K2 and even older D-150 and DC300A are superb with a modern source and neutral preamp driving them, but they WILL almost certainly need a service as heaven knows how most of them have been used and abused over forty years - they still come up sounding fantastic though once checked over :)

The previous owner seemed to be alright (he offered he'll take them back / return me the money). Is it possible they could be damaged because of storing them for so long?
