Looking at M Fremmer's website, decided to dig out the macro lens from my film camera bag and
see if I could check the stylus rake on my Koetsu.
Given the stylus is brushed before and after every lp side, imagine my dismay to see this! Holy s---!:doh:

An hour later with the brush and onzow zerodust, no better.
Phoned my mate to see if he had any isopropyl alc. none left.
He does however have an AT vibrating stylus cleaner.

Went to borrow it checked his Shiraz whilst there:

Came home and remembered I had spray for the dogs feet that is alcohol based.
Tiny amount on stylus brush then with great trepidation, used the AT vibrating cleaner.
Tried using extension tubes to get closer, not great photo but at least looks stylus shape.

Strangely I can't say records sound any better now, not that I play them much these days.
Bit scary though so will have to invest in a usb microscope/camera methinks

I always use 75% isopropyl and the AT on all my carts, it's a classic for good reason. Be careful with other solvents, I know someone who tried white spirit and the stylus came off the cantilever as it dissolved the glue.

Looks to me like the crap vibrated off the stylus has stuck to the top of the cantilever
as that looks dirtier than before?
Only thought i Have for trying to clean that is a can of air for blowing out the cameras.
Find the whole exercise scary:eek:

Send it off to Dominic at NWA for a clean. It'll come back looking new.

Is it as effective on the dog's feet?

Just a thought,
crap drawing but idea is a small fork with two rows of brush filaments .
Drawn carefully from the rear this might dislodge the crap from the cantilever.

I surely can't be arsed taking the cartridge of and posting it every time it needs cleaned.
Making me think about replacing it with a cheaper cartridge for the few times I play records:scratch:

For Mr Kipling,

constant problem of the dog licking chewing his paws. Can't get to the bottom of it in
spite of horrendous vet bills.
This stuff actually seems to be the only thing tried so far that helps rather than them
continually wanting to feed him steroids.
Virbac Cortovance cutaneous spray solution for dogs,
composition : Hydrocortisone aceonate,

probably steriods by another name:rolleyes:

Just a thought, but what about an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner? You can get them for about £10 I think. Just uses water and drop of detergent.

It'd need to be a very small dog....
