these are some crossover from ruark sabre mk2 speakers .

i need some help on choosing upgrade parts so i can rebuild them and sqeeze out some more performance :)

The large component is an inductor, the two blue ones are capacitors and the three rectangular grey ones are wire wound resistors. The component values of the capacitors and resistors will be written on them.

You will get a lot of different opinions, but for what it's worth I'd replace the resistors with equivilent value Mills resistors (the resistance should be exactly the same as the printed values on the ones in your crossover - but the same or higher wattage is OK). I'd also change the capacitors for something like the ClarityCap ESR or MR range (depends on how much you are prepared to spend) again it's important to get the correct capacitance value as printed on your original caps, but the same or higher voltage is OK). I'd probably leave the inductor as it is at the moment.

ive been into hifi since i was around 13 of and on

I would also like to mention that i have a rogers ravensbrook amp that was modified by a guy on this forum . Thats how i found this forum trying too find out whats been modified on the amp cant remeber his username something tubeHunter

here are the list of caps and resistors

expotus 11w 3.3 ohm J
'' '' 10w 10 ohm j
'' '' 10w 4.7 ohm J

you say use mills as they are good ( are they wire wound resistor or non inductive resistors


also the caps i have no idea what they are im puzzled

ALCAP 8mfd , 50 vnp 10 % LL

ALCAP 12 mfd , 50vnp 10 %


can anyone help what sort of caps and resistors they are

You have sort of answered your own question:

the Caps are 8 mFarad, 50 volt (non polarised) with a 10% tolerance i.e. 8mfd +/- 10% (I'd replace with closer tolerance)
and 12 mFarad, 50 volt....

The resistors are:

3.3 ohm rated at 11W with a 5% tolerance (that's what the J tells you)
10 ohm rated at 10W
and
4.7 ohm rated at 10W

Just replace all of them with 12w Mills type. which are also to 5% tolerance

the only cap they have at 50 v is 220 uf

From the text;

1 mF (millifarad, one thousandth (10−3) of a farad) = 1000 μF = 1000000 nF
1 μF (microfarad, one millionth (10−6) of a farad) = 1000 nF = 1000000 pF
1 nF (nanofarad, one billionth (10−9) of a farad) = 1000 pF
1 pF (picofarad, one trillionth (10−12) of a farad)

thus 8 mf = 8000 uf

can only say that is the way it used to work. mill means a thousand, thus a 1000 mm in a metre. micro or fancy u means a thousand thousand. they may be using the m as micro but they shouldnt be

I've never heard of a crossover with 8,000 uF capacitors! that is power supply territory.

So to keep it simple, I suggest you get a pair of 8 uF ClarityCap ESA and a pair of 12 uF ClarityCap ESA's from Falcon Acoustics as they do the exact values you want. I'd also go for their 1% tolerance matching option.

Yes they are 250v rated, but that's fine. They will also be quite bit bigger than the Solens but it looks like you have room on your crossovers.
