Mine since new in 1976 (if I remember rightly) eventually taken over by my son and dragged from house to flat to house until finally offered back to me as an alternative to throwing out. I couldn't let that happen could I?

They look very well travelled as a result and the photos show this to some extent though there are plenty of marks and biffs on corners but structure is sound. Grills are there though only one badge. In most respects they still sound good - strong, neutral and fairly warm.

Only problem I can see is the miss-matched super tweeters (Coles 4001) - one is silver and the other black which suggests the silver is a replacement though my son cannot confirm it (kids eh?). Certainly sounds a little brighter on the silver side which indicates it may be 8 rather than 16 ohms - if any one can clarify please do.

Are these of any interest to any one? I suggest £45 though carriage might be quite a bit extra. Collection/demo welcome. I also could use a boxed Shure M75ED and or set of tools for a modern Shure M97xE as a swap if that helps.

I am in the NE of England.

If the cab containing the silver Coles sounds brighter then it is a safe bet that its darker sibling is a gonner I'm sorry to say, they are rather fragile units as I know only too well... :o

Well yes, that is possible though on listening I felt the black "side" sounded more balanced than the silver! I don't remember DM4s sounding bright.

Either way, these are for parts or repair or something and I just don't want to bin them - I simply don't have a potential space or use for them.

Any interest or offers at all?

Would anyone like to collect them from me for nowt? I need the space!

If I were closer to you Ron I'd give you something for them as I could do with a spare Coles tweeter for my DM2's, which are currently sitting forlornly on the landing feeling a little neglected.

Rats - I'm in France. I could do with these for a sixth system!!:)

If I had any loudspeaker with a Coles, I'd replace it with a T27. I remember being really exited when I bought a pair for a project and promptly bunged them in the spares box. Something not quite right about the sound for me.

If T27's are exact drop in replacements Gordon then it is a solution I would consider for my DM2's although I'd rather not use original KEF drivers as they cost a bloody fortune. Luckily there are T27 compatible tweeters available from other manufacturers, IIRC Vifa produce one.

I think the magnets are bigger so the hole would have to be enlarged. The Coles are like hen's teeth so I'd do it. My biggest box speakers use the HF1300 with the T27 above and they sound terrific to me.

Falcon Acoustics can supply new Coles tweeters however they are nearly fifty quid a pop, and pop they usually go once I get my greasy mitts on them...

I would be pleased to pass them on chaps though I rarely get down to Northants and it will be spring before I am in France again, sadly.

Interesting info about the T27 fit. If anyone wants to try it out I have just the right pair of test beds...

The Coles (two impedances I think, one high for Spendor BC1's and similar and 'normal' for these - the HF1300's were different too as I recall) can be got from Falcon Acoustics, along with new UK re-designed (by the original designer!) and re-manufactured B110's and T27's.

Would there be enough interest to break these for spares?

Nooo... DM4s are much too nice for that fate.

Could you be bothered shipping at my cost?

REW

I would yes if you are Ok with my description. I would have to get some packaging together and estimated courier cost. Not in too much of a rush are you Geoff?
